FIFA WC BRAZIL 2014

I figured with 65 days to go, now is a good time to start a thread for the real Football fans on BP (j/k). :fans:

Anything related to WC preparations, squads, players, coaches,, and ultimately games can be discussed here . Things will probably heat up as we closer to June but why not start a bit early .

Please make sure any discussion is civil, respectful, and no trolling.

So, who do think will win? which team are you cheering? who will be the dark horse? will the USA make it out of the first round?

FIFA seeding is borderline joke...the way they tally points doesn't really reflect the reality on the pitch. Also the WC has become way too diluted with subpar teams solely for marketing/f

Same here, hoping for Drogba and team to finally make it to the next round, this will very likely be his last WC as a player. Also hope to see Yaya score from one of his rampaging runs.

Seems alot of us are cheering for Ivory Coast thanks to Drogba.... he truly is a man on spot....

President of Ivory Coast promised ''his'' players double prices for todays win.....  to boost their motivation.

My bet for today is

Italy vs Uruguay - over 1,6 goals

Greece vs Ivory Coast - Ivory Coast to win

@2.60

bet365 bookie...

Good luck!

Unbelievable. Dracula Suarez strikes again. Ban-hammer needs dropped on this dude's head.

I cannot believe uruguay failed their counter attacks... thanks to Suarez.... lost my bet.... :)

We shall go on! :D

Ivory Coast looking very complacent today, even Drogba...now hopefully they will fire up with Greece 1 goal up. Good disciplined Greek side.

BONY!!!!!!!!!!

Ahhh!!! Samaras milks it! Though Greece have been the better side today, very quick on the counter. Lackluster performance from Yaya today, bar one goalless run towards goal.

A pity that Prandelli has resigned, I thought he was good for Italy.

So Luis, what do you feel like eating for lunch today?.......................Italian.

Should have been a life ban.

Its a shame that suarez is such a Twilight fan. He has so much skill and so much to offer the sport. I think the ban is pretty fair. He may end up retiring and say screw it.

Pretty good

He ain't retiring. not at 27. But hes probably gone from Liverpool.

On one hand, I feel bad for the guy. I mean, I played a lot of sports as a kid and played soccer for 20 years. When adrenaline, people become different people. I am one of the most laid back guys in real life. When I play basketball or soccer, I am like a foul/card machine. I have little man syndrome.

I had a friend back in highschool who was the nicest guy ever. Play any sport with him and he might slit your throat.

People do have to be responsible for their actions, but there are people who do kind of morph into someone else.

However, what kills the feeling for suarez is the fact that he didn't come out and just say "I did it, its awful, I am trying to stop being that person". After pretty much every soccer game in my career, I have gone up to the ref after the game and apologized for anything I said or did in the heat of the moment.

Another thing that pisses me off about this: Suarez bites a guy and everyone goes crazy about bad sportsmanship, etc. However, lets say Suarez touched the ball with his hand to score a goal?

No one would say a word or give a damn. Both are cheating. I mean I love Maradona and his hand of god goal (more because of the essence of its name - he was a god during that tournament) but it was cheating. if you are going to kill a guy for that, kill a guy for taking a dive, or scoring a goal with his hand, etc.

There is a huge difference between cheating and assault . You cant go about biting other players like that . Period .

True. But should there really be a difference in terms of people berating someone? I mean - cheating in general is wrong. An assault is arbitrary - I used to play with guys that purposepully "flailed" their arms at others lower regions during soccer games.

YaY - I like soccer. Lose and you get to advance sometimes.

We were poop on the offensive side of the ball today. Ill mark it up to the rain.

To be fair, a lot of US teams would take a game where they were down 1-0 and had two pretty good chances to tie it up in the final minute.

If the Red Devils don't loose their upcoming game (which starts in about two hours), we'll be up against the US July 1st...

USA!  USA!

We can heal up by then and I'm sensing we'll get Jozy back.
