75055 - Imperial Star Destroyer

So back to the old news of new sets, the 2014 Star Destroyer! Something that hasn't been seen in minifigure scale for 8 years. But when I compare the two, I would almost choose the older 2006 over 2014. Almost, but not quite. I think the realistic look and figures are good. However, there's the obvious nagging thing about it being smaller than 2006's. But that didn't really matter since half of the ship was really an escape pod launcher. But is the new half any different? It seems pretty basic for what you pay. Is that set worth $130?  And there's no more helmet changing station either! I had hoped for an improved one, but since the station was on the Super Star I guess they went for accuracy maybe?

My biggest reason for asking is my hope to sell my used 2006 Star Destroyer for more than $160 (I am more a collector than investor, and I still play with the sets, believe it or not, but I sell them when I want new ones). Will this set negatively affect the price of 2006's model? Does size matter? Either way, I think I am going to buy 2014's new one, probably after selling my own one. But should the time to sell it be now or later? Thoughts?

  • Amazon de is now out of stock on this and AT AT so let the good times roll as very few big chains have any left now.

The most likely scenario is a TFA ISD playset coming out in the summer. Therefore time to make hay while the sun shines on this set and let the AT AT appreciate more slowly as it is less likely to be remade as a playset.

ISD retired first in Europe, actually. THere are still quite  few QFLL´s (and shops) still selling AT AT´s below RRP here but ISD is now on the up.

Wow I hadn't actually been keeping an eye on this one what with r5,tumblers,at-at,etc

Lowest BIN is £175 uk, that's excellent, and unexpected (well from me)

I bought mine 3 months ago in sept for £69ea, and was thinking I might be able to get these price mid year.

Star wars force is in full effect. Now all we need is EV to go

The UK push for SW sets has been remarkable.

Now that this set is gone and the price is escalating, I feel like I am less likely to open and build the one I got for myself, and more likely to treat it like inventory. I wasn't really into the set before I bought it, I just did because it was my last opportunity to get it at this price for my personal collection.

The entire Spanish stock has been wiped out in one day - I assume there will be relistings but that´s a great sign.

Yeah, I've noticed a big upturn in SW interest from UK buyers.

That's why I bought one extra at full msrp plus tax. I would be too disgusted by the margins on it compared to the other 10 I have (all at 25% off or more) so I wouldn't feel bad opening it.

Price seems to have peaked at 350 to 400 on this one in Aus, none have sold for 7 days now, some lowering of prices going on, and offers of free postage, still nothing moving.

Quite easy to sell on BSS pages between 250 - 300.

on ebay germany, around 8 have sold in the last 2 days. all around 190€

Yeah I did the same, I did not expect an increase this large so quickly when the buy in was only £69, so I put 5 up for £200 each on Amazon, as kind of a test and they all sold within 72 hours. I even got questions about them, and you never really get questions on Amazon. Anyway I'll be keeping the rest until Christmas, let the good times roll.

WOW. it's sitting at around 189.99 USD, but 200 pounds is like 289 USD. Quite a difference.

Wanna buy some for 195 pounds? :)

Yeah I know really massive increase on a short hold/low buy in. Glad I bought a load of them

Very nice uptick in demand on this one recently. It is making a fool of AT AT and Mos in Europe, as predicted. I can see it getting to 300 euros with a bit of R1 help before the remake comes out and ruins everything.

That's interesting because the opposite is true in North America. I did sell a pair of these last week, one at $200us cash which was a nice surprise.

This set is starting to take off.  Lowest FBM is $250. Prime at $260.  Under 40 sellers on AMZ. The patient will be rewarded once again.

I sold mine with 105% growth p.a. for 215 EUR. Quite happy for the set, which I held just 10 months.

The going rate for the ISD on the Dutch Marktplaats ads site is currently at €180 - €185 NISB.

Dutch buyers will go to great lengths to score a good deal and there are still plenty of sellers offering around that price.

Pretty true. I might get myself one.
