I have been watching the site and contributed only a couple of times, so, as someone relatively new, I get kind of lost when reading posts from people and see things such as "YMMV" or "AS."  (I know 'AS' is Architecture Studio but no clue still about the other)

I can figure it out if I read enough posts, but I thought this forum could be used for people to ask questions about abbreviations and for more active members to share any they may be willing to.

I know there isn't a universal system for these abbreviations but maybe some order could be made.

It's like texting nobody wants to actually spell things and you just have to deal with it.

I think we should not use abbreviations, even more so with set numbers.

The purpose is to save time but often we end up with at least one more post asking what it is. With set numbers, readers often have to look up the number to find the set name.

Posts like this will make it hard for everyone:

"Picked up 2 BE from TRU today, saw a small discount on MC2 but passed"

Lego maintains 200 sets each year, how are we going to keep up?

part of the reason for abbreviations is because oftentimes, people type it on the phone, and it is cumbersome as it is, let alone typing "mobile crane MK-II".  ROFLMAO

These days, I would think "nobody _knows_ how to actually spell things "

Haha it's true. I've heard of kids handing in reports for school that have text talk in them.

Yep, next thing you know, there will be "compact edition" of Pride and Prejudice with LOLs

Maybe we just need shorter names for sets instead of abbreviations so people can figure them out:

Arkham Asylum Breakout = Nut House

The Ewok Village = Muppets

Winter VIllage Cottage = Cold house

Super Star Destroyer = Badass

Ultimate Collector Series Millenium Falcon = The Grail

The Fire Brigade = rescue me

^We are doing that already -- Death Star = Live Star (1 letter shorter :P)

That's true. I was thinking the people who had the death star as an investment might just want to call it @#$%.

I mean, that's probably what they say every year it comes back anyway. Or this:

It used to be a few abbreviations that everyone was familiar with (example, SSD, DS, HH) but now every set is being abbreviated.  When discussing small/new/low profile sets, I would avoid abbreviations.

You know that you've been on this site too long when you can referencing "historical" events rather can just read about them

I can recall various retails and most abbreviations but not set numbers for the life of me. Some, yes; all, nope.
