I'm all over this during the next 2x or 3x VIP.  I just wonder how much Jawas will go for in the secondary market?  I need more Jawas and some Tuskens.  I still haven't broke down and bought any Tusken Raiders from the old battle pack yet.

Heck, I wouldn't mind having 3-4 dewbacks when the Cantina is released either.

Not a daily deal, but news -- looks like the Sand Crawler went live on the LEGO LEGO Shop at Home site this morning, marked as available May 3rd...  Just in time for the yearly event...

Soooo.... maybe 50% off May 4th promo on this?  please, TLC, please?

I know little to nothing about star wars as I've started in the past but I'm just gonna say that I look forward to selling what I deem a giant plastic poop to others.

Anyone figured out how to add power functions to that thing?

New sandcrawler shall be referred to as "PP" from now on

lame. I was hoping to Confuse every new user and go with BP. Brown poop.

Wait are you guys actually selling brick picker...

Why yes yes we are.

I, for one, can't wait to build that giant pile of brown plastic poop.  Unless there's a miracle and it goes on sale on May 4, I will probably wait a year or two to get it.  There's too many other things to spend money on right now.

That build looks so incredibly non-appealing. I look at the Sandcrawler like I do the Back to the Future car. Great idea, horrible execution.

I don't see how it could have been done much better given the constraints for part count, price, etc.  I find that people are comparing it to that Cuusoo MOC, but that thing would cost a ton more if sold at retail.

In reality, the vehicle it's based on is a big brown box so people are either going to love it or hate it.

I was putting hope into there being a tusken or 2 thrown into the new cantina set, but looks like that's out of the question.  My 2nd hope was that they'd be thrown into the new sand crawler.  Well, no dice there either.

Hopefully they stay in the Tatooine setting long enough that we get some.

I'll still be getting one though.... Do I need my kidneys??

I am really tempted to buy this one.....

To keep it Sealed and box on display..... for like 10+ years lol

How big is the box for this set? I haven't bought enough LEGO to ballpark what size it is, anyone with more experience have approximate dimensions in mind? Need to see if I need to buy some bigger boxes to ship this in...and bubble wrap.

Looks pants and I preferred the old one.  I'll never buy one to build but, I may to invest but, not for 2yrs at least.

I was just looking at this thread and saw some discussions about comparing the piece count of this set to the old one. The new build features a nice deal of Technic elements to support the plates. And you know what drives up piece count?

.

.

.

Technic pins. Just look at the 10212 Imperial Shuttle. ~380 pins and their Technic brothers. ~80 axles. That's about 1/5of the set. I predict there will be at least this many in the Sandcrawler.

I'm looking forward to this set as the pics of it are "growing" on me. It doesn't look that bad plus it resembles the movie and Kenner versions nicely. While I'm a huge fan of 10144, I think this will be an upgrade. Just wish another Jawa would have been included.

I'm in for one in a couple years.  It's going to be floating out there a while so there isn't any rush to keep the money tied up unless there are extreme deals.  Hard to imagine a rerelease of a rerelease Sandcrawler.  Much like Jabba's Palace and the Sail Barge, it's hard to imagine either of these sets being topped in a long while.  The minifigure quality is very high though the builds of the sets sets may not be the bees knees for everyone.

Brickshow's review of the new Sandcrawler.

The box is way huge. Nearly same size as 10188 / DS.

It is definitely a UCS based on the model's detailed design (although the box has the logo) and use of technic elements (ball joints, axels, etc...) .

While it looks like a fully "play" set like 10198, I think this Sandcrawler might be a bit fragile for kids.

Overall, nice job Lego.

Nice video review, thanks for posting.  Only complaint would be for $300 that there should be more printed elements and less stickers, especially for the cockpit, the control panels look decent but the radar screen is dismal. That being said I will still be picking this up May 3rd.

Wanted to be excited, but this set looks rubbish. For babies. Wasted UCS idea. SSD got me back into Lego - and there's been nothing close since. B-wing was underrated and WAY better than this Fisher Price turd on wheels play set!

Give it a chance. It shouldn't be a downgrade refresh as the updated AT-AT and last year's Sail Barge in terms of design, size, and elements used.

I will be getting mine on Saturday and will posting comparison pics early next week.

This is something we've seen many times now with all the remakes of sets LEGO likes to do, what ends up happening is simply that LEGO likes to charge more to charge more, but I don't mind paying a bit extra as long as quality is there, but LEGO has had a few slip ups in the past... Just to name a few, later 9Volt train motors, see-through 'solid' colored bricks, printing wearing off certain head molds; Mr. Krabs, a SW character; ect.

LEGO also seems to like to add unnecessay plate levels, Palpatine's Arrest, Rancor Pit(Some may argue that it was needed for the opening door, but I disagree as it could have been done without the clip, so only 'needed' for an function not too crutial in the grand scheme of the set, but I digress) ect.

Now, what were you guys honestly expecting from a UCS Sandcrawler? LEGO has a limit to what they can produce and still make a profit, if you're telling me you would have rather had a larger Crawler that would be impratical with this design to get the price down, as most parts are used for the actual crawler, not interior parts. The only way I see that the people unhappy with it to make them happy would have been to make it anothrt 500 dollar UCS set so it could have fit in to TLG's budget and profit making, but even so it is a unpopular vechicle, not a bad one, but just one that probably won't be around for long and they did do the right decision where they can produce this, make money, and satisfy the larger group of people out there.

See, here's the thing, most people who like LEGO like to be able to do something with it other than just display, not saying it's the best way, but I'll say it's my default reason for buying LEGO. The Death Star II was discontinued after only 2 years, why? Reports say that this is because it was a poor seller, but these could be false, but who knows. What I do know is that whenever I invite people over to my house they instantly gravitate more towards the play sets instead of the 'adult' models.

Now with regards to the updated the Sail Barge, and other sets like it, I feel that overall the set is better than the original, if you're looking at detail. If size, the original wins out being 2 studs wider and I believe 4-6 longer, which the new one could have been and still looked just as fine. There are issues with it, but I prefer the new one because it is more accurate to the movie.

All and all, I think UCS SW sets should be regarded into two categories, minifigure scale, and 'life size' scale.

Now my final thoughts on the big old beast

1) The plate design is approved by me, allows more detail to be captured

2) Wish it was easy to add PF, fail by the designers

3) The marketing as an adult set was just bad, while I don't mind it being labeled as UCS, have two categories

4) Love the interior and figures

5) All pieces should have been PRINTS, NO STICKERS on UCS sets!

And finally...

6) My favorite thing about the set and my overall opinion on it is that it is one heck of a beast and I love the treads on the thing.
