Isn't that how they always do it?  If they want to move stock right away, just place a "sold out" tag or "call to check tag" on the lego site in the states, and the horde will eliminate the stock from all sites within hours, then they can start moving the excessive warehouse stock and allocate it from slower selling areas of the world, like Europe. 

You guys keep getting played like fiddles.

Granted, it's evident this one is going away, but now they have set the trigger to where this comes back in stock, they can throw that tag on it every few weeks, blow it out and rinse and repeat for months.  In the end, thousands of sets just move into reseller hands, and the price stagnation happens again.

That chart is definitely off.  10030 was released sometime around the 2002/2003 timeframe and was still available for at least a year after I started paying attention, which was around 2006.

As expected! How can a Lego UCS set go into the dark without doing "the dance." 

May not be another production run. It may just be inventory shuffle from EU to US. If EU can still have limit 5, they must have a lot available. They must be sitting on pallets ready to be loaded onto a container at anytime to ship across the pond.

Now Lego, lets run another double VIP this weekend, so we can all go nuts placing our orders.

A production run takes alot longer than 2 weeks. These are the dregs left in Mexico. However another production run is certainly still possible. We will know all within 90 days

If there is another production run later on this is not a set that will be able to sustain a large amount of hoarding and it is time to rethink.

 personally I think they are  just moving stock from overstocked countries. ( you guys in Europe are complaining about being able to order 5) doesn't make since to make more. when you have some countries overstocked.  And 2 weeks doesn't seem like long enough to make a new batch and have it ready. I may be wrong .

Read up on the SSD and Town Hall threads. We have all been through this before. Imagine if we all returned our 10221s and 10224s when this happened in 2014?

I am also pretty sure Amazon is sitting on stock. No FBA at all for this item? Looks like they are sorting out a warehouse issue and it should be back.

Yeah 91 sellers that's it on amazon.

They are not moving stock from Europe.  European boxes are different (they lack piece counts, because Europeans hate being able to calculate price/piece ratios before buying), and as a rule European boxes do not show up in the North American market via official channels.  More likely they are moving stock to LEGO Shop at Home, from Lego branded stores.  Anyway, I'll be investing in perishable food items, which I can at least eat if they fail to appreciate.

@asharerin, or anyone else with an educated guess, when we talk about a production run of a given set, how many units does LEGO churn out? Are we looking at 1,000 vs. 10,000 vs. 50,000 units?

Evident like Tumbler last year or evident like Pet Shop 12-18 months ago when it looked finished? And my question is not to be sarcastic. What makes the events of the past couple of days any different than what we have witnessed in the past for sets that did not retire?

I am sure we are just speculating here. We are assuming one goes out another new set comes in. We are guessing base on "the dance" SC is the one going out for DS to roll in. I think Sept/Oct we will still see stock popping in and out like Red5 last year. Then disappear by November. We may see a few in Lego stores for those that were stuck in the channel or in the backroom or few cases sitting in the warehouse.

Is that chart right?  It has 10030 only being out for around 1 year.  I can't recall exactly, but it seems like it was around for longer than a year.

Understood. Info pulled from site based on Lego.com availability (I don't know when sets officially started / ended).

I always use brickset.com to check when set came out/went out of production.

You're forgetting about the thousands of sets that were just cleared out of TRU, Amazon, Walmart, Target, and Lego Shop at Home over the last few days in the states.   They'll be making their way up onto the sites like amazon and ebay too.    I don't even want to begin to tally all the "i just bought 3, or I just bought 10" posts on this page, but there's probably a few hundred bought by posters in this thread alone, and this is just a small sample of what's going on globally.  If this is a rinse and repeat event over the next few months, like happened many times last year (I can recall red5, ewok village, tumbler, pet shop, SOH, Tower Bridge etc all having these sort of horde sacking events last year) then I start to think less and less about the chances of a set like this one.

@kris_1973 used the data available from brickset.com (e.g. 10227 B-Wing: "01 Oct 12 - 05 Nov 13" or 10030 Imperial Star Destroyer: "24 Oct 07 - 26 Nov 08"). Maybe the data just isn't reliable enough?

What if the whole reason for it sticking around is resellers buying it in surges now?

FYI Sandcrawler has not been in the LEGO Shop at Home top sellers over here for any of the last three days.

I think those numbers are based on quantity, so it is likely too expensive for that. Besides that, we're a small drop in the ocean of lego sales probably.
