I know this has been discussed in other threads but I thought it would be nice to consolidate everyone's opinion in one place.  

 

March is the free Martian Manhunter with $75 purchase.  April 1 - 15 is 2x VIP points.

 

How is everyone planning to spread their purchases out?  Is there a certain price threshold that will make you wait until the April 2x points or is the Martian Manhunter just too good to pass up?

 

I plan to buy at least one Martian Manhunter so that makes the first decision easy.  2x VIP only comes around every 6 months so planning additional purchases, especially on exclusives, takes more analysis.

Well, I think it depends on your buying. If you're buying the minimum to get MM, then I think that's a better bet. Let's assume MM ends up at $15, that's basically 20% off if you spend $75 exactly.

 

Double VIP is basically another 5%. So if you're spending $200 on an item, you're basically breaking even with MM. Any more than that, double VIP is the way to go.

I made $75'ish purchases this time around and I'm saving $100 - $300 purchases for 2x VIP.  I'm also putting some $$$ back for May 1.

I suppose it's how much of think the MM is worth against what is an effectively a 10% discount.

I'm not planning to buy anything in march so I have a double budget for April.

I think you also have to factor in the standard 5% VIP reward this month.

 

Plus, there is the risk the MM sells out early in the month so waiting until April could be risky if you don't want to miss out.  Most of the sets I'm targeting are $100+.

Make sure you factor in the time for selling those MM figures as well as the postage costs to get it posted as well as competition against other sellers when the market gets flooded with fakes and other MM minifigures.

 

VIP x2 is just that.. no effort straight discounts

The double VIP points is an additional 5%.  The difference depends on what you have already got or will get out of the MM minifigure.  Even at a value of $12 for MM, it would take a purchase of more than $240 for the double VIP points to be worth more than MM plus single VIP points.  I guess I'm not sure why some of you are waiting to buy exclusives in April, especially those priced in the $100-200 range.  The March promotion is better IMO.

It's not a straight discount right away though.  Yes, there is no extra effort involved, but it's a discount on a future purchase.

Yeah I like the no effort discounts better. I like selling exclusives, etc. However, on taxes they are a nightmare because your receipt says they were free. So if you are buying things for yourself, you have to figure out a better way to split it up.

 

Also that takes more effort than just writing something down.

I think I'm basing my decision first on how many MM I want for my personal collection and how many I want for the long-haul.  That number is probably 3 in total.

 

Anything else, especially if its upwards of $200, can probably wait until next month.

Where you draw the line on waiting for VIP point versus taking advantage of a good mini fig is going to be different based on which type of "discount" people prefer. IMO MM for an order less than $150 and wait for double VIP for an order greater than that.

He is a original member of the justice league. Who knows how long/if we will see him in a regular set/made again.  People will want the full team and in a year or so I would bet that this figure will go for $30-$40 a pop. I know most here are going to quick flip him, but I believe this one will post strong gains if you wait.

I imagine he will be in a set in a year or 2 due to the justice League movie.

I have a question about the Duplo Zoo back order. If the MM is gone by the time the Zoo is shipped, are we SOL?

If you ordered the zoo and the MM shows in your order then you will receive it. It will most likely ship separately since the zoo is back ordered.

Quick question. If I buy something this month at The Lego Store, is it 1 MM per $75 spent? Or is it 1 MM for your whole order over $75. If it's the latter, can you do seperate $75 orders or do they refuse to give you 2?

This has been asked many times: you would have to split orders, and while nobody officially said you get two, all here did get two, as in previous promotions. Or three, or four, ...

It all depends on what you would pay for a Martian Poly - If you were given a choice between an extra 5% or the Poly:

 

A $75 purchase is like paying 3.75 for the Poly

At $100 - 5.00

At $150 - 7.50

At $200 - 10

 

I would just suggest that you buy your smalls now & then your large purchases later.

Question on VIP points.      1 point per $1 spent, and 100 points = $5 off.  But as far as I can tell, in our VIP summary online they only quote your available rewards in increments of $5.   Whatever you have less than $5 increments is still saved in the system, right, and added to your next points earned

So how do you guys come up with these numbers?  Even if MM is only worth $10 after fees and shipping (and I think in the coming months he'll be back to $20-25), that beats double VIP purchases up to $200.  Double VIP is an extra 5%.
