well, it isn't as simple as that and Tabby return sets since it's a thrilling adventure.

 

anyway, we all have regrets. the key is to learn from them.  my one regret is buying 2 Anakin Podracer sets for $75 each in early 2013 despite hating the prequel movies.  brutal.  every time i passed those boxed sets taking up in my basement, i wanted to slap myself.  however, that day wasn't a total mess as i did buy a Dino Def for $80

 

luckily, i have no Town Hall regrets. 

I suppose that in perspective,a lot of people are regretting passing on TH - never mind selling it too early!

Like it or not, Town Hall is the Centerpiece of any rural historic Village/City/Township.  Because of this, it has to command big money alone; add in the fact the price/shorter than average life cycle to boot.  Plus, where can you get 1950's looking dark old bricks at?  Ha 

 

Kind of like the Back to the Future Clock Tower building.  Didn't someone already make up that scene with the Dolorean?

Personally I bought some Death Stars and millennium Falcons (7965) too early. I've been holding them for far too long. I've been holding some other sets for a long time... It was dumb but I don't regret taking a chance.

What I meant by no regrets is that if all you do is regret the chances you take then I think you ought to do something else with your time and money. Don't regret... Learn and move on. That's all.

Accepted, not a problem. I reckon most of us have suffered buyer's remorse. Winners accept mistakes, learn from them and move on with better knowledge. I nearly bough a lot of DS myself but, I can't help thinking how hoarded this is and doubt the appeal of a boring grey doll's house for boys. I'd have bought the UCS DS but, was too late. I bought TB too early but, I still reckon it'll skyrocket after EOL.

Bought another 4 of these today. 3 off ebay, and another 1 off brick classified...average of $425 shipped.

I think I'm going to shoot for 30 of these bad boys now! What can I say...I'm a gambler. lol

I will probably continue to buy at $450, and below...then again, maybe $500. =/  

I plan on holding on to these suckers long term..3-4 years or so.  I really don't think I will lose any money on these, even buying at these prices.

Until TLG is out of business which- after an incredible re-tooling and new vision in the 2000's- will likely never happen, the modular line will continue to grow, expand, and draw more adult fans (buyers).

 

This means that modulars are still in their infancy as a "set".

 

The Town Hall is, up to this point, the most expensive/highest piece-count of the modular line.

 

Lessons learned possibly by TLG:

 

Folks are comfortable in the $150-$160 range, but $200 is a rather large bite. Thus, the slower sales- and unexpected departure- of the Town Hall.

 

It is reasonable to speculate that, ten, twelve, fifteen years from now, when we are that many modulars down the road, we will see more amazing sets- but likely none that reach this purchase price or piece-count. TLG may likely consider a $200 modular set a slap-on-the-hand from buyers.

 

Any die-hard fan will consider this a "must"; the largest, most expensive mod ever produced. And one that the majority of the investment community missed, due to the surprising departure it received.

There are many, many thousands of future modular collectors (on top of the current ones) who don't know anything about this set, or even the line in general. They are coming; Lego is only growing in popularity and likely will continue to do so.

 

Once they discover the Lego modular line, do some research, and determine what's out there... the TH may well become the centerpiece of any true collector's display.

It's currently the fourteenth most widely held set in member Brickfolios, eight positions higher than the Death Star.

^ If you are going by the list Ed posted, he has said that after the GE at #1, that it is not in any particular order. So we don't actually know where in the top 25 it is.  

 

Aside from that, can anyone tell me how many bags come in this set? I got one for my dad from TRU a couple months ago.  It wasn't damaged by one of the flaps popped open on the ride home and now I'm worried the more I think about it.  Hope everything is in there.  Thanks in advance.

I agree with most of what you wrote.  None-the-less, Cafe Corner is and always will be the highlight of any display.  Nearly everything about CC contributes to this: rarity, it's the first, gorgeous building, etc.  The only downside - and this is a very, very slight criticism - is the lack of interior detail.  None-the-less, CC is and will remain the most sought of all the modular sets, period.  

Now back to 30% off at Lego shop EU and no longer accessible via the search function. It can only be seen in the theme lists and, as before, if you click on  it you get an error message.

I got a quote from a seller in Russia two weeks ago. Shipping was going to be $150 for two sets. Sets were priced at $280 each. 

Still not a bad buy, for anyone into holding longer term, I`d consider it, no questions. Goes for any price on this set $400 or under, even more if you`re patient.

I would say, pretty much all of it.

 

I think you should consider selling an Ed's Picks membership. Members would get an early notice of your picks, days before the masses.

 

I know that there is no way to tell for sure, but I do wonder where the set would be at without the investor hype.
