Is it just UK airports that rip you off?

I went through Heathrow Terminal 5 this week and I noticed a Coast Guard Patrol for

    it's because airports shops pay so much for their rent I guess and the airport is full of people who have a few hours to fill waiting for their flight plus "gifts" are probably 80% of the market at an airport, they just stack the shelf and wait for some pidgeon to walk through the door. I found a toy shop at Singapore airport selling lego, their selection wasn't too bad, but was at least 25% over rrp, if not more. When you consider a beer was 7 quid, the price of lego doesn't seem so bad now.
