I was at Target yesterday and noticed that the Rancor Pit sets they had in store had the punch tab type boxes. I know the ones I grabbed from Lego store had the sticker seals. Maybe Lego is switching back to punch tab boxes even for larger sets to avoid theft? I hope that's the case! Anyone else seeing this for other sets?

I would 100% back this strategy from Lego.  It's a long time coming, too.  Those stickers are about worthless from keeping somebody out and tampering with the contents.

True, but I would feel safer. Too many stories of random garbage stuffed into boxes, or stolen minifigs.

Definitely a good move if it's really happening. Would help reassure us that we are actually getting a sealed set with all of its contents.

I noticed this also.  I picked up some Rancors at Kmart this week and an A-wing at Walmart last week that had the punch tab. 

I saw the punch tabs within a month of the Rancor set release. Since then I see the rancor sets with the tape tabs.

Oh good . I can release my anger again on the boxes.

Love punch tabs myself personally. I have a few old sets with the tape starting to stretch and if i get a really picky buyer they may dispute it and think it was opened.

 

Have not seen any punch tabs on anything other than some of the smaller sets in my area, and I've Purchased some Rancor's recently

Is it similar to the Architecture boxes?  I really like the quality of those boxes, and would like to see every set come in them.  Unfortunately, cost of the sets would go up accordingly.

^ Yeah, the Curiosity Rover set has this kind of boxes too.  The box actually makes NISB Rover look much more expensive than NISB Minecraft when placed together on the shelf.

I like that Lego may be doing this. I really hate it when I think I scored a great deal on a set only to find out that the rare minifigures were stolen.

I like the new, sealed boxes much better for saving the boxes in my collection. I cut all 4 seals, lay the boxes flat, and slip them in a gigantic 4xl ziplock and store in garage or under bed or closet. The old punch tab boxes are harder to get to lay flat (I have to use a knife) and I always seem to still damage the box some.

However I do see the advantage of mitigating MISB scams by going back to punch tab boxes.

There are also collectors on this site. Since I am both, I can see where they are coming from. Cutting all the four seals on a box makes it easier to store the box. On the other hand, the punch tabs give more security to the investors who do not want to be stuck with a Lego set(s) that have a book and puzzle pieces in it.
