79006 - The Council of Elrond

Featured Replies

I bought 6 of these at 50% and was wondering what to do with them. Every store I go into has always had a ton of them so I know they don't sell that well, but at 50% and next week 70% of I had to grab some. I like a lot of the pieces in the set like the columns and the chairs. It also has white arches which you don't see too often. I think the playability  of these is poor which is why they aren't selling but parting or just using for MOC's could they be a winner?

Either open up a bricklink store or return them

While I'm new to this whole investing and selling theme, I know one thing: It's Lord of the Rings. It's generally a good set for a Lord of the Rings collection, and for any collection really. I will pick one up for personal collection, myself. It may take a while to get some value to that set though.

I think the moc looks great, but if you look at the minifigures, it honestly looks like a bunch of guys sitting in recliners...

Haha I was just about to say that! They look a little too cozy.

While it certainly doesn't compare to some of the Rivendell mocs out there; i have 1 in my collection on display and i think it's a pretty nice looking set. I'd be all over it at %50-70 off and i hope the Canadian Target follows the US one with the clearance soon on this set (at least it sounds like you're talking about a Target clearance).

Half off is excellent. It's not an amazing set, but the figs are good. Be patient, in 2 years it will be worth $40+.

great set, and you got for an amazing price. This set is still active but once it retires it will do well many of the other LOTR sets, just need patience.

I think it will be a stinker; even post EOL.  Just doesn't do anything for the child LEGO fan.....and for alot of adult LOTR fans...I can't imagine it's a display worthy representation of the Council of Elrond.  That MOC is money....so maybe it'll be a nice "part out" set for MOCs.

As I recall, I wrote this down as one of my part out sets to avoid. I honestly would just keep them. Not a lot of capital tied up - could be a sleeper post EOL just because no one will hoarde them. But you will be able to easily get your money back out.

I would disagree, found 4 of these on clearance last year and turned them into 120% profit in a couple of weeks

what's the point? If I got this for $5 a piece in clearance and sold it for $25, that's 400% profit. Does that mean the set has done fantastic?

My point is, its all relative. For some it bombed, for others it didnt. obviously you done alot better out of it than most

Yet the set is still being offered at rrp, more than 6 months after eol. UG, ToO and even attack on wt showed better gains, regardless of buy in.
