Spring catalogue 2014 the grand emporium is in there.

I checked the catalogue of Jan-Jun 2014 (3 times). There are no exclusives shown in the catalogue. Maybe there is another catalogue for more expensive items??

 

I think it's a wholesale catalog; not the catalog you find in a toy store over here in Europe.

I think you are right. In the simple catalogue for us poor europeans it is not in there.

Because John Lewis don't care if you order 25. And they occasionally price match across an entire range I.e. if someone has 10% off Lego, they will match it, even on exclusives.

The only ones that discount exclusives are lego themselves, you still pick up the vips with the discount.

Would you really try 25 GE from John lewis, ive had some shocking packaging from them.

No, John Lewis will also discount exclusives. FB and VW were 10% off before Christmas. Some people prefer to have the raw cash off rather than VIP discount which ties your capital into lego.

I like the John Lewis 10% discounts, knocks a fair bit off when you're buying exclusive sets. Anyone know roughly how often JL offer this?

I've ordered 4 GE's from Lego LEGO Shop at Home without a problem.

i know that store staff tell a lot of trash, but i wonder why 4 different stores (2 in austria, 2 in germany according to the german member viscontia) plus the lego hotline tell exactly the same thing: they won't get a GE anymore. The fact that european amazon sites are out of stock too tells me that EOL is near. (just my feeling)

It is easy to tell if the staff have no idea on when a set is going to get discontinued when various stores are saying completely random things compared to other sources. When the sources are saying the same thing that a set is going to be retire soon, it probably means that it will retire soon(ish). 

The majority of sets retire in the last three months of the year, they always have. If this set goes against the grain of modulars before it then I'll happily refrain my thoughts. Until then John Lewis are stocked and Lego UK have the option to order 99. I will be ordering a few of these over the next couple of months but I don't expect it to disappear for a while yet.

I think this is going to be my first set to buy a few of (just dipping my toes in lego investing, more a fun hobby and an offset to some of the cost from buying sets for the kids as they are now huge Lego fans .  Looks fun to build and hope for a good return in a few years!

Its a great/fun hobby.  If you have a little collector trait in you...just having some sets that are not available anymore in your closet or where ever you keep your Lego is nice.  The bonus is you have kids so the sets can be passed down or the family has fun opening and building together.  Good choice being your potential first investment set.
