Modulars - general conversation

With the current number of official LEGO designs (including one created by a fan for the short lived Factory line), numerous MOC's available on eBay, various amounts of ideas on CUUSOO, unique creations across Flickr, and detailed builds on MOCpages, makes me wonder what modular house design would you like to see LEGO come up with next?

Here is a quick list of what has already been done.

Cafe Corner (2007)
Market Street (2007)
Green Grocer (2008)
Fire Brigade (2009)
Grand Emporium (2010)
Pet Shop (2011)
Town Hall (2012)
Palace Cinema (2013)
Parisian Restaurant (2014)
Detective's Office (2015)
Brick Bank (2016)
Assembly Square (2017)

I do not have a favorite as they are all very well designed and make fantastic displays. I simply started this thread to hear you guys' input & ideas as to what you would like to see them design next in their lineup of modular style houses. As for me, I would like to see something fast-food related like a burger joint or pizza parlour or maybe even a chinese restaurant. Since we have a fire station there should be a police precinct, and I think it would be amusing if they did an irish pub, haha.

Regardless of what it may be, any modular style housing design always ends up being remarkable. Considering how much everyone here enjoys the 'modulars', I expect this thread to get quite busy!

Here is a compiled list of every idea everyone has come up with thus far.

Irish Pub
50's Diner
Medical Center
Mechanic & Auto Repair
Photo/Camera Store
City Bank
Police Precinct
Post Office
LEGO Store
Car Dealership

Ice Cream Parlour

Jazz Club
Coffee Joint
Grand Hotel

Magic Shop
General Store

Finally, here is a list showing the pattern for the officially designed modulars excluding Market Street. Perhaps in some interesting way, we can use this to help gauge what the next release shall be.

Cafe Corner - corner / business
Green Grocer - straight / business, residential
Fire Brigade - straight / government
Grand Emporium - corner / business
Pet Shop - straight / business, residential
Town Hall - straight / government

I feel it was about time I added Parisian Restaurant to the poll, don't you agree? :derisive:

Agreed, I prefer the Green Grocer most, but it looks like the Parisian Restaurant will be second, followed by my Cafe Corner.

Currently building the Town Hall, and it is pretty simple, but it looks great!

Just when I thought there wasn't anything left I got a random idea. How about a Magic Shop? Majisto the wizard is moving on up to the big city! Also how about a place for one of those fortune tellers or palm readers? (Whatever they call those locales.)

I went and updated the main post showing a general compiled list of all the ideas everyone here has contributed with. I must say it is very long which is just fantastic in my opinion and I would like to give a big thank you to all of you that lent your imagination towards this topic. Although not every concept is one Lego would touch, however, this list just proves there still are many ideas floating around out there waiting to be done officially or not and that the series of modular house builds continue to have a long veritable road ahead.

If there are anymore ideas you may have or perhaps missing from the main post list, please feel free to post them here and keep this thread going strong. :)

I would love to see a classic general store with a soda machine, candy machine, and pinball machine.

  • 1 month later...

sorry if this was discussed before... any ideas, speculation or wants for the next modular building? Lego did a great job on the Parisian Restaurant (PR) released last year.

Police station? School? I would love to see another split building like PS and have post office + library/book store together in one set. Salon? Gym?

I want a police station!

Very hard to predict what Lego will make next, but I want to see another modular like the PS. If they did do something like that, I'm thinking that they would put a salon and a post office together. That would be a nice modular.

barber shop with the red/white pole and a book  store.

candy store or bakery has lots of potential and they can get all the props from all those sweets lovin' FRIENDS sets.

would be cool if they started having different ethnic themed restaurants.

Yeah post office or salon or book store too small for its very own building but together will be awesome. The Pet Shop has a great look imo. Love the options of'split building' / two modulars in one.

*PS purchase coming in April :)

I like the bake shop or candy store idea.

I remember someone on Eurbricks pointed out a pattern with the modulars excluding Market Street. Let's see.

Cafe Corner - corner / business

Green Grocer - straight / business, residential

Fire Brigade - straight / government

Grand Emporium - corner / business

Pet Shop - straight / business, residential

Town Hall - straight / government

Palace Cinema - corner / business

Hmm, from the looks of the list of modulars officially designed by Lego (Market Street was by a fan), it would appear the next modular should be another straight (side) section government building. Perhaps we shall finally get that Police Precinct we all have been hoping for, eh? :derisive:

I want to see the next mini modular. I don't have the space nor the money to build all the full modulars, but after building the mini modulars recently I am hooked on that one. It's just sad that right now there is nothing to continue in that direction, except possibly unofficial versions.

Interesting pattern. Thinking of government building in an older town setting. Post office and police station seem to be obvious. Others?

Some kind of factory. Coffee roastery or rum distillery (yeah right :P) Or how about a small college?

I think they should make a Lego Store modular, and the second floor could be a dance studio or a recording studio.

Edit: Or a Three Story Lego Store via Iketart!

A casino would be freaking awesome, but will never happen. I'll have to MOC one, I guess.

an arcade would be cool... stephen Rockefeller posted links to some mocs on eBay (before) and it looks amazing. pin ball machine, dance dance revolution, general video games... they even had the classic coin exchange guy haha.

someone can probably moc a 'grab a bear' game thingy... with chain/grabber coming down.

A museum would be pretty cool, the Cuusoo museum project looks great.

A laundromat, steakhouse, beauty salon, or attorney's office?  Who knows?  How about a dojo or gym?

the arcade is awesome.  i would like to  have a lower level bumper car ring with a mezzanine level where the burnouts play videos watching the action below - actually this would be a great $149 simpsons set with the bully crew and Bart and Milhouse.

I know for a fact what the next modular will be... it'll be something I can't live without, again.  :queen:

I want a police station!

This will happen in the new future you have to think. its pretty amazing it hasn't wiht all the City Police Stations they build. But the Fire Brigade is gone so you need a Public Service (although I guess you count Town Hall?) place.

Did you end up getting any of the old three yet?

A museum would be pretty cool, the Cuusoo museum project looks great.

you're right. a museum could even be big enough to stand alone... love to see the classic t-rex skeleton on Display in main lobby.

the laundry mat and beauty salon are natural fit and would look great. every day common buildings. good ideas.
