Rarely see Lego for sale in my area on CL. Mostly resellers trying to move items without using ebay and over pricing them. I am new to the Lego game and came across this ad recently.

I have tons of LEGO's...

They are in a 30 gallon fiber dum with sealing lid

There is +60lbs of LEGO's inside

Over a million pieces

Some instructions/directions included

Some sets inside are: Airport, Police Station, Fire Station, Marina, Hot Rod club, Space Shuttle/launch pad, Octan Gas Station/Car wash, Coast Guard, Pizza To Go, All underwater adventures, All Wild West/Western sets, Pirate Sets, Royal Knight sets and castles, Fast Track Finish, Indy Transport, Wave Jump Racers....

From what I gather from ebay 1 lb of Lego goes for like $20. So 60 lbs would be $1200ish. I looked up the sets he mentioned and seems they are all from the mid 90s and not worth much, so it would just be bulked out for any profit.

 

Should I try and talk him down to say like $450-500 and then try to sell 1lb increments or is that market pretty much cornered?

$20 per pound is pretty steep. Most likely brand new from power seller so they are getting more. I would say you could probably sell it anywhere from $8-$15. Weigh it yourself and try to look over it for any non-Lego pieces because that is an easy way to lose money fast. IMO

If it has the minifigs then it would be pretty worth it....if you had about 2 million hours you could sort and reconstruct the sets to maximize earnings....but you have to enjoy that sort of thing :P

 I get about $20 a pound for new legos ( used .. I would say $7-$12) .. this is coming from a powerseller on ebay who sells bulk

I wouldn't pay more than about $180-250 for that. First, that 60 pounds is the sellers estimate as is the million piece estimate. Think about having to sort 1,000,000 pieces Unless you plan on selling it in random 5 or 10 pound lots there is there is a ton of sorting to do.

My guess is that it will sit on CL for a while and the seller will have to either lower their price or sell it on ebay themselves. Over the summer I watched a 125 pound lot drop from $1000 to $500' after about 3 more weeks I grabbed it for $325.

I got into CL buy and sell recently as well. I tend to stay away from bulk lots and look for identifiable used set lots.  Competition from power sellers for lego pounds is fierce on ebay and with that I don't think you should pay 600 for it.  Rule of thumb is lego pound should be $5 if you want a deal so the price should be around 300 or less.  

wow I get used slobbery legos with knex and mega blocks in them around my parts for $2-4/lb and right now there's probably 500 lbs of Legos on CL that the sellers won't go lower on yet so I wait them out

No, do not pay $600 for that unless you know for a fact that it has many nice rare sets like classic pirates for something of that nature.  If he's saying it's mainly bulk, I would treat it as such and offer around $200-300.
