10226 - Sopwith Camel

ATTENTION COLLECTORS AND INVESTORS:

On June 1, 2012, LEGO will be releasing a new version of the SOPWITH CAMEL. The older version, set 3451, did extremely well in the secondary market, increasing almost 200% from MSRP. This set looks much more complicated and accurate. Watch the LEGO 'DESIGN' video. Nice detail. A must have for any investor or collector, so save your pennies for June 1st!

  • Sopwith is doing ok in the states. I wish I had been buying them instead of the VW Campers I have...

I think its a great set in my book it is alot better and cooler looking than Zombie themed train that people say it will be a winner. But then again I never really was into LEGO zombie theme.

It is an afol winner in my book, especially for anyone who loves flight, those who are pilots or have parents/grandparents who are pilots in the military or commercial just love everything to do with flight.

This set looks great, i have been looking around for deals but can't find any, so will have to buy from lego for

I think that this set will do well, but not super well. Also it hasnt been out for too long so dont expect a quick eol and profit

The set just came out last year, so why is it selling for so much more on eBay than the retail? Is it retiring? I thought it would be around for a while.

It's a Lego exclusive. You can't get one at any of the big box retailers, and for a while even Amazon's price was 130 or 120. Also, keep in mind that Lego LEGO Shop at Home doesn't ship to every corner of the world, while some ebay sellers will. I dont think it is retiring soon, i'd say christmas at the earliest.

I didn't realize that was an exclusive, I thought I saw them for sale at Walmart.com for the same price as Lego.

It is not an exclusive. You can get it at all online retailers.

The Sopwith or Volkswagen Camper could retire by Christmas at the earliest, but we have at least another solid 8 months to grab them.

I expect VW camper will go first, it's been out longer. Sopwith Camel is high in the US, in Europe it is cheaper, on EBay and at Amazon. This must make it unique in the lego world :)

I could have sworn it was an exclusive. My bad. Anyhoo, if youre a builder you need this set. I bought one to keep sealed but i couldnt help myself, i opened and built it and it is fantastic. Beware the size, though. It is big and youll need some space to display it.

Lego exclusives have a habit of turning up on other major retailer's websites. They still are primarily available at a bricks & mortar Lego Store or the Shop-at-Home website but eventually they can be purchased off of Amazon and the like online.

LEGO Shop at Home UK has both Sopwith camel & vw camper list as Hard to Find, not exclusive. Explains why amazon etc... has them.

Is hard to find= to low production?

Is hard to find= to low production?

Not at all. For example the Death Star and Fire Brigade are (or have been before) under hard to find, and they are far from being considered low production.

More like Hard to Find = Pay Higher Price

Will the 10226 be a good investment if bought at

I can get this for

Almost definitely! Where can you get it that cheap?

It will do very well, you got it for a decent price too.

Did you seriously have to open ANOTHER thread for this?

Did you seriously have to open ANOTHER thread for this?

yes...anyone's ready for another one?

Do me a favor and not be so harsh on the newer members.......give people some time to figure out the forums, point them in the right direction. Not everything has to be an argument ;)

I think it will do really well. I thought it was going to do well before it was 50% off, even if you had bought it at full retail, you still would have made at least a solid $100+ before fees. Though the recent craze could affect its performance, the B-Wing will most likely be a $300 set soon after EOL. I am hoping it is something like the Imperial Shuttle or Maersk Train in performance, and I think it might, especially once builders start to realize what a beauty the build is!!
