10226 - Sopwith Camel

ATTENTION COLLECTORS AND INVESTORS:

On June 1, 2012, LEGO will be releasing a new version of the SOPWITH CAMEL. The older version, set 3451, did extremely well in the secondary market, increasing almost 200% from MSRP. This set looks much more complicated and accurate. Watch the LEGO 'DESIGN' video. Nice detail. A must have for any investor or collector, so save your pennies for June 1st!

Here is the LEGO Press Release:

  • Sopwith is doing ok in the states. I wish I had been buying them instead of the VW Campers I have...

Stop talking about it and let this thread die. Oops, I just talked about it. LOL.

Yup, time to land the plane. Or find a Red Baron set to shoot it down. Ooooo the Red Baron goes for

You're right, abort, abort, abort, delete, delete, delete! :)

It would do better with a Snoopy minifig.

Im in germany so its cheap shipping for me......

You got your point :) As everybody says: 20% or more below retail and cheap shipping and if you have enuf space to store them, I would buy some more! And build one! Its a great looking plane! Cheers

The sopwith camel will likely be a great sleeper set like the wright brothers plane, it hasn't been on sale hardly at all so any discount you can get is great.

I like this set. Considering picking up a couple more. Good price, but yeah depends on shipping.

Yeah, I found this to be a really nice looking set. It will definitely appreciate overtime.

I bought 2 of these. One to build and one to keep. This model I think is excellent. I'm thinking of picking up a few more. What is the feeling on investment value down the road. 1 year. 3 years etc. I can't help but think its a sleeper

I have come to the realization sleepers are becoming more and more rare with every passing day. The last real sleeper I think was the imperial shuttle. Now at least a few people will be on to sets like the SC and let the cat out of the bag! The SC has been talked about quite a bit on this and other sites and the consensus is that this is a winner! Don't get me wrong about the the cat out of the bag stuff, no one here will be upset for bringing sleepers into the limelight.........that is really what this site is for. So the short answer is yes this is a great long term investment, just like all the other large scale models.

Sleepers no longer exist in my opinion. SC is a nice set though.

How on earth was the IS a sleeper? people have piles of them stored up, I'm still sure they will do great just because there is such a great market for the star wars models. The SC on the other hand could join the ranks alongside the emerald night as a fantastic model but I doubt it will have as large of a following. The wright brothers flyer and brown SC have both done well on the secondary market, but not superb, this plane is a larger set than either of those predecessors.

I only know one person on this site who has these stockpiled....there was almost no talk of this set until a few weeks before it EOLed. I see every post so that is how I know. If it was on the radar then almost everyone here would have loads of them right?

If it takes 61 of them to constitute a stockpile, then your right, only one person does. I have seen quite a few of them get snatched up from the last toysRus deal and I know several people were buying them in the end of january as well.

I have to agree with redeemed. ISwas NOT a sleeper. I started in November. I got most of mine at 209. A couple at 259. I have 10. Unlike others I only bring up my stock to illustrate a point. Not to show boat.

The only evidence that I base my claim on was that no one on this site and from what I saw not many on any other site were discussing this set at all let alone discussing its investment potential. A moot point at this point anyhow since it has been retired and it has so far proven to be a winner. All my opinions so I hope no one is offended.

No offense at all. Just expressing our different opinions on and you are right, a moot point. I never post, but always follow. The MODS are always full of good insight and polite. Great job

Sorry if I seemed snappy, I didn't mean it that way but I see it could have read differently. I have only been on here for a month and at the time there was a lot of talk about it since the last few were going in Amazon and there has been a small resurgence as the last few were snatched up from TRU this week. The guy who bought six of them the other day, I would call that a good supply since it is such a large set. BTW, is anyone else here a little afraid that there aren't many more large sets coming out? The last several UCS sets haven't been all that large, the 10212 was decent but not a $300+ set, the tower bridge is a $240 set, nothing insane, I know the part count is high but many of you have seen my opinions on what really constitutes a sets size. The Star Wars theme is really what has gotten all of the largest sets, if they slow down or stop, what will we do for our bread winners? I would love to see some large sets from other themes like LOTR/Hobbit but we will see. There is talk that the opera house will be massive but we are also getting very excited here too, it wouldn't surprise me if it was the same size or smaller than the tower bridge.
