I still, after these years of selling, don't comprehend what drives people to spend $200 on a set on Amazon that they could have paid $100 for on Ebay. Not hating though, congrats on the sale!

have you read the Fruitcakes thread?

there are many out there that still think Ebay is an online flea market and Amazon is equivalent to Walmart (when it can be the opposite in reality)

I don't know either but I'm not complaining.

For the basic shopper who doesn't look around. I would say they view ebay as a garage sale and you don't know what you are going to get and what level of customer service.

Random grandma and pa know that Amazon is reliable and they can just call customer service immediately for help.

Who really knows?

I'm just gonna say. I know money wasn't an issue and they value service and reliability behind the Amazon name.. . :)

Insta sold my used no minifigs 75046 Coruscant Police Gunship for $180 shipped.  Maybe I underpriced it? It was minty with unused sticker sheet. Thanks to the OP that let me know the price on this had taken off. I have all of the other SW sets used from that run still to list but selling NIB is so much easier.

Call me old-fashioned, but in 5 years of selling I have never sold a set at a loss. And where are your shipping fees?

I can easily buy it sealed for that price... The US ist just crazy right now.

Over the last few weeks I have sold through all of my Sand Baseplates at $25 each. I had a ton of them but they’re gone now. I hope someone can fill the void.

nice.  these were great.  i had a ton too and am down to i think 5 or 6 though i thought i hid some in an unexpected location so that i would find them sometime later than if i had ready access to them.  i just can't remember wtf that is now.  if only magic crystal ball would tell me when that blue baseplate goes.

i sold a smashed box tumbler yesterday for $369 , ocean monument for $225 , 20th ann snowspeeder for $90.  fbm

I sometimes don’t mind selling used/assembled sets at a loss just to get them off my shelves AKA keep the wife happy. I call it the price of the joy of building. I admit I made a mistake with the MILF though. I sold that in mid March before I realized what was going to happen with pandemic supply and demand. I was always content to take a small loss on the MILF but I also always thought it would be very easy to replace with a MISB one right way. Also, i sold one of my VIP stands a while ago for a couple hundo or so, so technically i didn’t lose on the MILF, just didn't account for that here.

No shipping fees. I sell primarily on Bricklink and the buyer always pays shipping so I did not include in the above spreadsheet.

Agreed - Long time full timer, and I've never sold at a loss either (if you are buying right, they all pay off in time).

I do understand (in theory) how selling the dogs and then using that money for buying better inventory can sound reasonable.

But I think that true discipline is rare - It is much more likely that the impatient seller (that is compelled to sell the dogs), would also be likely to sell the winners way to early.

I mean, to be fair, the only sets I took a loss on were used. I sat on those three assembled architecture sets for years and years and they were just literally collecting dust on my shelf. I didn’t even have to disassemble them.

also, are you guys really going to quibble over some used sets when my overall ROI is 38%? come on.

Not criticizing you at all - just discussing the theory of selling at a loss.

Hopefully they weren’t looking at that column.   Don’t think you can compare ROI on new Vs used sets.

eBay. I find they sold better with free shipping. I also listed them with quantity instead of singles. I had a couple of people by 4 or more at a time.

Right on thx!

I guess market is hot and I was lucky. And as we speak, just sold Fire Brigade and Palace Cinema s as a bundle for $750. Market has gone crazy. Local sales no fees

I learn something new everyday. I always thought it was just Canadian dollars and you were making fun of Canadians.
