What Lego set did you sell today and for how much?

Since we have the buying thread, I thought we could have a selling thread too. Let guys, and girls, let others know sets they have moved, maybe returns that they realized and the timeframe it took to get there. If this is lame, well, I guess it will fall to the depths of the forum, here goes. Sold a sealed 7199 IJ Temple of Doom for $200, purchased for $115 6 months ago I have others, but this is just to give you an idea.

60026 Town Square for £90 posted (buy-in £36 from John Lewis, -50% due to trashed box)

10179 UCS MF - My very last one with 9.5 grading in sealed acrylic box for £3500 cash (buy-in was £172 during Modelzone's closing down sale!). I've now got the bits together to finally build my own!

21104 Mars Rover -  My last 5 for £74.99 each plus P&P (That's it, I can't get any more from the US)

I'm having a mass offload on eBay (using various accounts) and just too many sets to list but, I've sold over 150 sets in the last week!. I'm undercutting most other sellers but, my buy-in was 60-70% off at supermarkets and I need a big clear out. There's still over £25k worth to shift and then I'm left with desirable Exclusives and custom sets only.

Isn't modelzone still open in whsmiths?

Yes but it no longer sells LEGO and everything else is at WH Smith's jacked-up prices! The branch I referred to which closed was Broad Street Mall in Reading. I did look as branching out into Model Railway investing but, the aftermarket is dead for current items.

you know whats odd, I was doing an inventory of all the Mixels I have ( turns out its like 1100 ) and comparing prices on Amazon/eBay etc and for some unknown reason maybe valublae pieces in the set, the Mixels Scorpi from series 3 was selling for £14.50, so I put the 34 up which I bought for like £1.50 each and all sold in like 10 days ( all Amazon and all sent none-recorded because Amazon actually bans people. ) Yes madness

series 3 mixels have finally hit my number of $50+ per set

not bad for a $18 buy in, I wish on had more

I use a fortune teller...

Meditation. Zone theory. In order to know what Lil' Timmy will want come christmas 2018 one must become lil' Timmy.

And lil' Timmy's gramama.

And what @dcdfansaid.

Someone beat me to my own classic punchline.

I am getting too old for this :D

Pro tip: do not use Lipton tea for divination purposes

What do you think so far? We just played the battle of endor and it looks very promising. Seems like they worked in some nice game play tweaks that makes it feel a little more fresh than the last several Lego games.

We love it.  Once past Endor, the game pretty much follows chronologically through all the major scenes from TFA... it's like watching the movie over again, but better... a lot funnier.  The puzzles and battles are pretty easy, which is great for a young kid and an old man to play together.

Live Lego, breath Lego.

They don't... it's called gut instinct, having the balls to to buy and then wing it ;-)  We're all competitors on here so I doubt that you'll get the exact answer you want. However as you look through these forums and on eBay's "Sold" listings, the clues are there.

Here's a tip... Scour your local supermarket and clear the shelves of anything that's 75% off or more, the deals are out there. Take a smartphone with you and check eBat sold prices before you fill your boots. I best haul was 27x 4332 Garbage Trucks at Tesco (Llanelli) for £4 each! If you see "bargains" on Hot UK Deals, the cat is already out of the bag and either there's no stock or the shop is at the other end of the country. If you see a very good local deal, don't post it unless you want to share it on here ;-)

Great advice from TabbyBoy in just a few sentences. I only might add the need for patience.  As a new investor, I looked at recently retired sets and thought this is "easy money".  Take The Tumbler 76023 for example.  Retail US$199.99 + tax... now selling for $280 + shipping (about US$300) just 6 or 7 months after it disappeared from store shelves.  When I first started this, I thought every big Lego must be making 50% profit within months of retiring.  I but numbers are misleading.  With sales tax, I might have paid $214 for the Tumbler.  Selling at the current $280 (with eBay avg fees of 13%) will yield $244 return... only about $30 profit on $214 invested. And this set is one of the big winners. Yes, I expect to make good money on my Tumbler... but not now... more like 18 months to 2 years from now (2 - 3 years after I bought it).  When I first started this, I never really thought that I would have to wait so long to make good profits.  It takes longer than you think.

So far I love it! They made some great improvements and it looks great on my ps4.

Pure Gold right there. Had to laugh really hard. :D

My girlfriend told me: "You don't have to become Lil timmy. You are Lil timmy."

I think thats the secret of all the pros on here. They got 8 yo. After that they only grew taller :D

(Though I'm far from being a pro - just hoping that's the secret - being the Lil timmy myself ;) )

Two other things to bear in mind:

eBay also charge a 10% final value fee on postage along with PayPal also taking their cut.

You HAVE to declare LEGO sales on your tax return if profit is being made. You can get away with selling ONLY one of each set as you can state that yu are selling your collection. If you sell mutilples of each set, eBay will be notifying HMRC some time within the current tax year so please make sure you tell them first! I know because I was grassed up by a jealous colleague (I was making a lot of money) back in 2008 and ended up losing all profit and then some due to fines and costs.

Once you account for postage, fees and the dreaded income tax, you need to sell a set for approx. triple buy-in to double your money. I know this isn't the correct thread but, new "investors" need to be aware of declaring income BEFORE they start selling regularly.
