June 7, 201510 yr Price on Amazon going up.. # of sellers going down..... The 7965 might have just weathered the reseller storm...
June 8, 201510 yr looks like another wave of newbs hitting amazon Edited June 8, 201510 yr by jerryherb
June 8, 201510 yr Collectors, yes. The regular consumer....my own opinion is no.Here's why. I'm a collector, investor, and consumer. I saved one 7965 for myself. My thought has always been that my 3 year old son and my 7 year old daughter and I would build it together at some point. But over the last six months, I've realized - A New Hope is *my* Star Wars. I'm 42. I was 4 when ANH premiered. Episode 4 will always be *my* Star Wars. It has a huge, special meaning to me. But to my kids? Not so much. To my son, everything Star Wars is titled "Star Wars Rebels". He just thinks that Star Wars is called that. The Ghost is much more likely to be "his" ship than the Millennium Falcon ever will. But even if that's not the case, for my son and daughter, Episode 7 will be the first time they see the MF on the big screen. Those characters are going to be the first characters they see on the big screen. So, if any MF is going to call to them, it will be the one from Episode 7.What does that mean? I'm guessing that if the average consumer, come September, goes onto eBay and see a Lego MF, and will go for the lower priced one. They won't be looking to get an Episode 4 MF; they're going to go for the Episode 7 MF. That's what will be current in the average consumers minds. Now, at a $60-$80 will emazers' lose money? Of course not. But, look at the unsaid advice he's giving folks - there's a reason why he only had 15 of the 50 he had left. You're quite right and at the same time you aren't!I agree on the lines about what interests the kids and that we grew up with the OT and what's dear to our hearts. At the same time I wouldn't expect that kids will be the potential buyers of the sets I invested in. I know there are some kids with filthy rich parents who are ready to spend big money on anything including lego and this is our least of a problem. It goes without saying they're the last thing to worry about. But the fact is ....I would find it rather odd if a kid has £250-300 to spend a set like 7965! Where would that kid get this much money from? Main customers for this set even if not UCS will still be grown ups with collector's state of mind. That logic is probably true and applies for the little batman/friends/chima or anything boring as this where even 2-3 years down the line price stays pretty much flat cause buyers are kinds and very rarely collectors who wish to have every single set from a certain theme, even the most boring one. That's why I have no regrets when people say "kids this kids that" ....expensive and big sets are usually bought by adults aka AFOLs who have jobs or some sorts of income. No 10179 or SSD (or anything in that price range) is bought with savings from the grandma....

You're right - collectors will be the one to pick this up. But the collector market is smaller than the overall market. You're not going to have Little Johnny buying this. Little Johnny will be getting the cheapest MF that he can find (or that grandma can find). My own prediction is that, while there is another play set MF on the market, until stocks of 7965 get scarce, prices will be depressed.
June 8, 201510 yr You're not going to have Little Johnny buying this.Plus, Little Jimmy might laugh at Little Johnny (for having that funny looking round dish) - and who's gonna want that.
June 8, 201510 yr The difference in the American and UK markets does make me laugh sometimes, I mean you can easily sell a falcon over here for around $370, granted the cheapest buy in was roughly $125, but hey I sold half of mine and will be keeping the other 6 just in case. Off topic and another example of the difference in markets is the golden dragon I mean their selling for like $100 dollars a pop over here, I did buy 20 and got them cheap for around $25 each, but still I should of bought at least 50, lesson learned I guess golden Ninja is golden.
June 8, 201510 yr I'm glad I sold all mine before the new set was unofficially confirmed. Now to sell my last Sith Infiltrator since a nearly identical remake is coming soon. At least the old set still has the Padme minifigure going for it.

That thing was a tough sell even without an upcoming remake I only bought a handful of these for investment and they were what I could find left at B&N when they had a 50% clearance plus membership and coupon discounts. I think I got them all for less than $20 each.

June 8, 201510 yr I just sold one on amazon for $255 + 7.49 shipping. Most I've sold one for yet. Down to my last one.

June 9, 201510 yr This sets was one of the best short term investments out there. Even with the relatively short time it has been retired and with the lingering release of a newer version, the price keeps going up. One of the few non-exclusives that was clear to outperform.
June 9, 201510 yr Wait.... am I in the wrong thread? My address says it's supposed to be about the Millenium Falcon. Maybe the forum directed me to the wrong thread though who knows...
June 9, 201510 yr The difference in the American and UK markets does make me laugh sometimes, I mean you can easily sell a falcon over here for around £241.33 ($370,), granted the cheapest buy in was roughly £81.53 ($125,), but hey I sold half of mine and will be keeping the other 6 just in case. Off topic and another example of the difference in markets is the golden dragon I mean their selling for like £65.23 ($100 dollars) a pop over here, I did buy 20 and got them cheap for around £16.31 ($25) each, but still I should of bought at least 50, lesson learned I guess golden Ninja is golden. How would you have predicted that the golden dragon set #70503 would have gone up by that much? I thought the ninjago theme is not a popular investment here. It could have been like the Epic Dragon Battle set #9450!
June 9, 201510 yr Looks like the set went down a little and shot strait back up even higher than before, go figure.. I sold my last few with relative ease.
June 9, 201510 yr What I don't understand is why people will pay $250,$260, $270+ for these on what I have to assume is Amazon? When there are brand new ones for under $200 on Ebay with zero bids. I have a hard time making sense of it.
