May 29, 201510 yr I sold 13 of the 15 i had in the last 8 weeks once the piece count and MSRP for the new MF looked like it was going to be larger than 7965. For some reason this set always sold overnight when I was asleep so I got the added bonus of making money while I was sleeping which just makes me smile.Whether to buy or sell now comes down to the evergreen CAGR vs ROI argument and cash flow. Not sure that a new MF spells doom for 7965's performance, but in this case I took my money and bought more ecto. The future is bright for 7965 either way - the demand for this set is inexhaustable. I still have 2 left in a sealed lego carton that I will stash for a couple of years.
May 29, 201510 yr I'm hoping the design is different and much improved... I wasn't a fan of the multiple triangular pieces that you have to open to get into the inside. Hopefully they design a better way to make it look like a solid and complete build, but still contain a decent way to keep the playability aspect. I'd prefer to just pull the top off, and that is one big solid build.I wouldn't doubt this new one would come with Ep7 Chewie, old Han (probably just be regular han with a obi wan grey hairpiece), and some of the new "hero characters"... So, it's bound to have good figures.Looks like the first leaked hasbro black series six inch stormtrooper figure was leaked this week too, so my guess is we'll start to see new figures and sets leaked out every couple weeks, and by August we'll have a good idea about everything being released on September 4th. So, now would be the time to blow out the MF, x-wings, and tie fighters if youre fidgity on where this set might go.. But, yes, AFOL's will be the target market for these OT sets, and there definitely will be some demand... the real question that is only left to speculation is how much? If this was during the era before a new film being released, I think logic would predict it to slide down hill by 50 bucks or so, since it would be basically an update. But, with a new film on the horizon, it could get very interesting, because I think the new MF will be a hot christmas ticket item, and so these might be hard to find from September 4th until Christmas. Which, could lead people to go to ebay/amazon and find the previous OT version, and think about buying that one instead. So, I still think the price on the OT sets like the MF, X-wing, and Tie Fighters could very much not only stay at their current prices, but also go up. It all depends on how hot and how much stock is put out with these new Ep7 sets to meet demand. Judging from how quickly the UCS tiefighter has gone lately, i'd say they won't meet demand on the larger sets, and they will be hot ticket items. So, keep that in mind too as a potential reason to at least hold onto a few.And youre right...there's always something new to put your money into. Always! And that's what makes this fun. Just about every month 3 or 4 sets are reaching retirement/EOL scarcity. Edited May 29, 201510 yr by fossilrock
May 29, 201510 yr I'm going to beat that dead horse again...Every investment needs an exit strategy. The profit is good now and the gains for the next 12 months might be minimal to negative depending on what comes next. Every investment has risk. The profit is good--I'd say go for it.
May 29, 201510 yr I just listed one that had popped seals for $220+shipping. I have 2 others ready to list. I may keep one though.
June 3, 201510 yr http://www.thebrickfan.com/lego-star-wars-episode-vii-the-force-awakens-official-set-names/Millenium Falcon re-release coming later this year.
June 3, 201510 yr Well the MF probably will be very similar, but the X-wing may be different. Tough call on selling the X-wing, but I will probably sell most of my MF.
June 3, 201510 yr http://www.thebrickfan.com/lego-star-wars-episode-vii-the-force-awakens-official-set-names/Millenium Falcon re-release coming later this year.Well, from these specs, it looks bigger and badder to me.
June 3, 201510 yr Well, from these specs, it looks bigger and badder to me.Still gonna keep one sealed? I have one left to sell...so tempting.
June 3, 201510 yr Happy I sold my last 7965s and 9493s within the last two weeks.I've still got one 7965 for myself. Will happily buy the new MF and XWing to share with my kids. And to QFLL come the holidays.

And to QFLL come the holidays.Same here. I sold all of mine this past holiday around $225 plus shipping each. My average cost was $100. I probably cut bait a little too early, but I didn't want to be left scrambling to dump mine with everyone else once the re-release was officially announced. Now is the time to get out in my opinion. Put that money into something else. Even if you bought at retail you will still be making a decent profit, and I don't expect the 7965 to increase a lot more once the new version is released. Maybe once the first wave of episode 7 sets come and go, we may see the 7965 jump in value if collectors want an original trilogy version.
June 3, 201510 yr It will never go wrong to keep one 9492, 9493 and 7965 - especially if purchased below RRP. There are and will be enough completists to make good money for these.Besides we are looking at a less than 10% increase in part count and different minifigs so it is not exactly a reinvention of the wheel. If I still has 20 X wings or 7965´s I would look at dumping them over the summer.
June 4, 201510 yr Still gonna keep one sealed? I have one left to sell...so tempting.I'm out of town right now, so I have some extra time to contemplate.
June 4, 201510 yr I sold all of mine a couple of months ago, when I first realized that there will be a new MF.I guess that the new MF will have more detail (more pieces!) and better minifigs. I wouldn't wanna buy the old one for more money than what the new one (with more detail) costs. LEGO would need to put much effort into creating a worse modell... don't think that's what they're aiming for. I'm hoping the design is different and much improved... I'd prefer to just pull the top off, and that is one big solid build. I agree, but I thought that the triangular solution wasn't that bad at all. Closed it was pretty stable for a modell that large. If they'd come up with a better solution of course I'd love it too!
June 4, 201510 yr I dont suspect the OT MF will tank. though it may drop a bit initially, and growth will slow. The new set will have different minifigures, not OT figures (not that any of the 7965 figs are particularly unique). plus with no new UCS MF the OT set will still hold some value. A lot will depend on how similar the designs are.that being said if you bought at a decent price then the taking profit now would probably be a safe bet. Edited June 4, 201510 yr by jay4e

June 4, 201510 yr More pieces doesn't mean more detail.Agreed. Just think. They've gone from a one piece radar dish to a several piece rectangular one.....that's like...........at LEAST 3 pieces right there.
June 4, 201510 yr So Price Wars / Race to the bottom has begun !! Yep. Yesterday there was 1 MF under $250 on Ebay. Today there are 15+. Of course the lowballers will blame it on supply/demand...
June 4, 201510 yr Funny how there is more demand for Tie Fighters now. I would have though the UCS version would have killed it but it seems to have had the opposite effect as some people prefer the lower cost option.Sometimes it´s hard to predict what will happen.
