Legends of Chima - general discussion

Here is the news article on BrickSet.

Same Swiss site publishes Legends of Chima, too!

Also, two more SUPER HEROES sets, almost all of the TECHNIC sets, all STAR WARS sets (except the "Planets"), and two more CITY sets have images and links!

I updated the list of 2013 sets to match.

Well, now we finally get to see 'the NINJAGO replacement'.

What do you think?

Edit:

Hang on, I quite literally JUST found pics and confirmed dates for the STAR WARS "Planets", too!

GrooveBricks - Star Wars Planets Series 3 & 4

  • Why do people keep insisting Chima is a flop? It has already surpassed many many other Lego themes to date! And as for 50% or steeper discounts, every line has had them, not just Chima.

Good find! I thought it was June too. Good news...

I hope this isn't just a one time thing and then we wait until June for the weekly series.

It feels that way to me, but here's for hoping otherwise.

Saw 15 or 20 Polybag Chima 30251 at a local Goodwill. 2.99 ea. Should I grab a few? Will it grow it value?

This theme reeks of a fowl turd. I don't get caught up with the "flavor of the month" themes. I am staying away...very far away. You guys have fun with this one. If I am wrong, please feel free to remind me in a few years. My investment dollars are better spent on the "bread and butter" themes like star wars, city, lotr, and modulars. For speculation I am investing in some safer bets like monster fighters, friends, batman, tmnt, and i have even warmed up to some ninjago (found a bunch discounted deeply). I suppose when I stumble across these at 70% off I may buy a few, but until then, you guys can have your way with them.

Just a reminder that the Legends of Chima TV series will return tomorrow at 7:00/6:00c with a 90 minute special event on Cartoon Network. That's the good news. Now get ready for the bad. That 90 minute special which is basically three half hour episodes shown back-to-back, the first two parts that will be shown are the two pilot episodes from all the way back in January! The only 'new' part of the whole thing is the very last third episode airing at 8:30/7:30c! Hopefully there will be something after the last episode that will give us a clue as to whether or not the series will continue on like any other regular TV series and not just go back into hiding like it did for this month and the last.

Question: Are the characters the show LEGO minifgs? I suspect not which will further add to my theory that the LEGO theme will be an investment dud. *EDIT nevermind I just saw the poster that TOK posted in the previous entry that looks like the characters are LEGO

I have a questions for those of you who have been at this longer then I have? Was Ninjago on TV before the sets came out or did they come out at the same time? Where the Ninjago sets very popular when they were first released or did it take a while for them to build momentum? Seems to me like the young kids I see at the retail stores know what Chima is, but are not to excited about it yet..... I do know that the LEGO folks are all in with Chima, it is evident by the way they are creating a ride already at LEGOLAND FL. The packaging for this line is great, but I have not been to excited about any of the sets.... YET..... http://www.abcactionnews.com/dpp/news/region_polk/winter_haven/world-of-chima-coming-to-legoland-florida

IT'S BAAAAACK! it has been a few months, and the legend of chima show is finally back on the cartoon network as i type this. my 7 year old son is watching and enjoying it as expected, but does anyone over the age of 10 think this is any good? personally, i have not warmed up to this theme as of yet, and this cartoon is not helping to sway my opinion. thoughts?

nothing else is on so i'l give the furries a chance

Watched 5 minutes... and I actually set my DVR to record the 3-4 episodes. I plan on watching them this weekend to try to get a gauge on the theme. Although I will say that in the 5-10 minutes I saw I was pleased. Granted this is from a parent point of view. In just a few minutes I could see clear direction of "positive lessons". Although my son is a newborn, my wife and I are already studying shows for what types of tv shows we are going to let him watch at a young age. Chima appeared to be just fine.

Looks like the Speedorz play a big part in the series....so far anyway.

i completely agree with this from a parent's perspective, but was trying to gauge it from an investing viewpoint. the theme hasn't seemed to have taken off as of yet, and it has been out for a few months now. personally i am having trouble seeing this as more than a one and done theme, with the most potential for any profit being this christmas season and possibly next if it hasn't completely fallen off the face of the earth by then. am i missing something here?

My son could give two sh#*s about watching it right now.........that's enough evidence for me lol

kids are glued to it. DVRing in their bedrooms. My kids watch these things over and over and over........egh...

I guess I missed it. I would have liked to have seen it even though I'm really not into Chima.

With the price of LEGO, who can afford cable? Maybe if I could pick it up with my antenna.

I wouldn't be surprised if come this Christmas, they can sell pretty well and that may be their main window of opportunity. It's not a 'one & done' theme though with the way how Lego is bouncing around showing a new episode here & there. Lego is testing the market and trying to see the correlation between the TV series and sales.

In other words, they're trying to recapture the sales from the first wave of Ninjago (the ones with the Skeleton Army). They showed an hour long special for Ninjago and that was it for a long time, but look at how fast those sets flew off the shelf! Lego is trying to do like that one Metallica album and Ride the Lightning once more by fine tuning their marketing strategies with Chima. They'll probably get it right for 2014.

Was Ninjago on TV before the sets came out or did they come out at the same time?

Honestly I can't remember exactly, but I do recall seeing the sets in stores way before the original hour long special in 2011. It took until 2012 before they came back with a full blown Season 1 of Ninjago, and that was about the Serpentine.

Where the Ninjago sets very popular when they were first released or did it take a while for them to build momentum?

I think they were a little popular to begin with. After that pilot special, they seemed to became really popular! Chances are Lego is doing the same tactic with Chima. They'll show a couple of episodes this year and maintain interest, then by next year they'll come out with a complete season or two of episodes.

Eurobricks has pictures of the Chima Croc Hideout. I don't particularly care for this line, but it did look like kind of a cool set with the big croc mouth.

I'm not a fan of LOC, but these a preety cool, especially the Lion CHI Temple. Thoughts?

I think both of these plus craggers ship and the gorilla mech or whatever its called will do well. However I feel like we're talking about Xmas '14 for any appreciation. maybe '15.

Gut reaction: a visual mess

put your investment dollars elsewhere. buy LoC for your kid to play with.

Really?

I see playability. Besides history of toys says usually "bases" for your guys to hang out are popular.

If a kid is into LoC, he's got to have the base. Look at the Fire Temple.

I agree.
