And another Kmart bites the dust....

Around the end of yesterday on my way home, I perchance spotting a big "STORE CLOSING" banner on the side of my Kmart. Dang it. I know I barely went there much at all but I was actually looking forward on trying to catch next year's clearance sales and the next nearest one is a good half hour away from where I typically shop (assuming that one is not also being closed). I am not surprised about the closure honestly but it still is a little disappointing. :(

Anyway, I went in and sure enough there were signs everwhere stating "Store Closeout Sale, All Sales Final" and a few with "10%-30% of lowest sticker price". It wasn't half off which I would think a store needing to liquidate everything would do but it still was worth a shot I thought. Well, here's the kicker. All the Lego was at full price and just 25% off. :mda: (Only somewhat redeeming part was there were some brand new sets around if you could find them under all the mess.)

How ridiculous; I almost didn't buy anything 'cause I can get better deals price matching at Target with Amazon right now. I ended up buying a couple Hero Factory guys I wanted, Gorzan's Gorilla Striker seeing how Amazon has it for just 20% off currently meaning I saved an extra couple of bucks here, Stagecoach Escape (the store was absolutely stuffed with this set as well as Black Zero Escape), a single Coast Guard 4 x 4 with Diving Boat (probably the 'best' of the bunch far as sales go), and one Fire Chief Car....just cause. :pardon:

Somewhere my Kmart found a few of the City The Mine but those few boxes were kind of trashed and I wasn't going to buy it for only $25 off. Plus I just did a few major price matches at Target and was totally not expecting to see this. I can only figure the timing of this closure and the low discounts are due to Black Friday right around the corner next week by which then I would have to assume they will go down to half off (maybe). Well, I already said before; there is no way in hell I am going out on any Black Friday again and if what I saw available then is going to be around for the event it simply is not worth it.

Moving along, my rant (which I thank you for reading) got me thinking into doing a little search and here I found an article or two about more Kmarts being closed all around the country as well as some other stores.

Another area Kmart just announced they were closing in my area, so that will be 3 in about a 2 month span, and 4 in the last 9  months. Leaves only one actually "local", and 3 more within a 50 mile radius.

I found out that one of my local stores is closing.  Right now, they have 20% off of all toys (which is worse than the clearance sale going on at the other KMart locations). However, the deal is pretty good for brand new and retired sets.  I was on a time crunch, but I ended up with the following:

2x 76012 Riddler Chase $24/ea

1x 3184 Friends Adventure Camper $23

2x 3935 Friends Stephanie Pet Patrol $7/ea

These are the first Friends sets that I have purchased.  They also had the Dolphin Cruiser and Olivia's house, but 20% off on those didn't seem all that great.  I'm going to head back there next week to see if they have increased the discount.

Adventure camper at a discount is solid gold (perhaps to sell around christmas), since it is retired. 3935 is retired too, but that's not a beauty salon...

I just stopped by my local Kmart about a week ago ... and it was like walking through a "ghost town" ... as opposed to 3 of my local Walmarts ... which are total "zoos!"  I'm surprised my local Kmart is still open!

Funny Story Time:  so last summer when I went to see the Superman "Man of Steel" movie ... towards the end of the movie there is a long fight scene / destruction / mayhem between Superman and General Zod ... and at one point ... General Zod throws a locomotive train at Superman that then crashes into and obliterates a Kmart store ... at that point ... my brother leaned over and said ... "I always knew Kmart was a train wreck!"

I couldn't stop laughing for days!!
