Just ran across an image of a Duplo Brick Runner. Says its discontinued, but it looks like tons of fun. Current Duplo sets don't have anything like this.

LOL I agree! These in my mind would have been the perfect sets to buy for my daughter when she was still at Duplo level. I like how they come with "inspirational activity ideas".

 

Why are they so expensive? Is it the piece count? Are these bricks made of hardier material since they're meant to be handled by many many kids? Has an expert "curated" these sets? Weird!

Yeah, they need to implement these pieces into normal duplo sets as these are much more interesting than the ones my daughter played with.
