If you have to discount sets down under by close to 50% - the set's an overpriced turd.

Target in Oz has been discounting the Classic Batman Cave, AoH and the UCS Tie Fighter to $199 - before any coupon "magic" at regular intervals for over a year.

This is by no means a complete Star Wars list, but any parent who has bought one of these sets and then sees the discounts 3 - 6 months down the track in a Big W / Target /Kmart / Myer / DJ's even Mr Toys catalogue is going to feel ripped off.

Talked to LEGO Shop at Home CS. Seems everyone’s orders are getting stuck in customs as they have tightened up the rules. What rules and what that means she couldn’t / wouldn’t tell me. 

I wonder if customs are gearing up for a post 1/7 GST crackdown?

I did read (Facebook page?) that Lego Shop at Home were being asked to confirm valuations of product and if applicable that GST had been collected.

But Lego already charge us Aus RRP.

They must've been scamming the ATO and not paying their GST the dodgy kents.

Damn it....how much more are we going to pay just for buying Lego....

I dont think you view is accurate (as to the parents being "ripped off"..). first of all we should take into account that their first and strongest impulse to make a purchase is based on their kid's wish (willingness or eagerness to fulfill it).. its like you would be bragging about your gf's jewelry that you purchased "too early".. because if you waited, you could get that one in sales ...  makes some sense? i dont think so! simply you want to make someone happy, the price seems OK at that time so you buy. 

all the regrets ".. should I wait.. ? could it be any cheaper.. ?" go just to "resellers" aka investors. I HAVE NEVER EVER had any regrets regarding any gift @any price that I gave to my loved ones irrespective whether they were discounted days / weeks or months after my purchase. .. and if you do - shame on you!

Most kids don't want crap bricks or Chinese clones - evidence Kmart / Big W / Target have not increased the shelf space devoted to cheap clones in the last year.

Pensioners - wait for sales to purchase birthday gifts for grand-kids - or give money instead. The mid-year sales and layby now for Xmas, retailers do this for a reason.

Just because a kid wants it now - sure as $hit doesn't mean they are going to get it straight away. Instant gratification - is not how I chose to raise my kids.

Buying jewellery from my wife is not an impulse decision, there is planning, working out what she wants and certainly never accepting the ticketed price. A 10% discount at Proud's is a starting point, never be ashamed to haggle. I never need to brag or tell my wife how much I spend.

I never feel regrets about gift purchases, because I plan well in advance, and if you don't - more fool you!

TRU is now officially being wound up in Australia, too. Liquidators couldn't land a deal to save them.

The online store closes tomorrow with gift cards honoured until July 5. Stock to be liquidated through physical stores.

Gift cards will only be honoured if an equal amount is spent on top of the cards value.

Hmm that means if you got a $100 gift card....you got to spend $200 just to use that gift card? End up still $100 out of own pocket....

I can purchase a Taj Mahal for $211 with myer staff discount.
That’s a ridiculous discount for a new(ish) set, but I’m done with oversized Lego turds so I’ll leave it to the lowballers to flog em for $50 profit.

Reckon you could gumtree it for $300 if you can be bothered with the nutcases on there.
