A friend of a friend at Merlin (Legoland Windsor) who's spent a lot of time with bigwigs in Billund.

With as many people that are investing in the VW camper won't it be harder to sell this aftermarket. Lots of people are going to be sitting on these for awhile. Its a cool set but there's only so many VW bus collectors too. I may pick up one for the pieces or just so I have one but I'm putting my cash into other possibilities.

Hey i just recently signed up on legoshopathome and got on the vip program, though it seems I don't entirely know how it works just yet. How do you guys know if and when certain sets are going to be available for triple vip points? Is there a time of year or a way to get notified of these kinds of things? I had some extra cash and felt like 10220 was a set to go for, but if you guys think there'll be a better deal for the same lego later on in the year, i guess no rush.

Last year, a week before Black Friday, Lego did a promotion where you would get Triple VIP points for every set you buy. We are predicting that there will be another Triple VIP points this year.

Aftermarket sales for the Camper may well differ depending on region. I expect this set to do very well in the UK and Europe.

The Camper has cross over appeal.  I have seen this model displayed at car dealerships, museums etc.  My wife likes it.  You don't have to be a burned out hippy either.  The question is if the non-AFOL will be willing to spend $250 on it.  I can see it appealing to silicon valley types and hipsters with money.  It is also easy to display which cannot be said for something like the SSD.

That is what I was trying to get at....how high will the ceiling go? I think we all agree it will be successful, but $200 successful or $400 successful?

I think closer to $200-250 is a more reasonable expectation than $400.  I know I'd probably be happy to sell at about $250.  Perhaps $400 in quite a few years but I'd guess many investors would be happy to sell lower than that.  Might take many years for supply to really get scarce.

Yeah and the VW Beetle is awesome and a good comparison.

 

At least where I am from and live now - VW Beetle is definitely much more beloved and still bought quite a bit. I have several friends with VW Beetles that really want the old Lego set still. While the VW Bus is awesome, these aren't still all over the road fueling interest, etc.

 

Plus the Beetle came out in a different age and is continuing to grow in the golden age of Lego interest while not being produced anymore.

 

But I certainly wouldn't be surprised to be wrong here. And I would be happy because I certainly have invested in a nice number of these

Haha, I was thinking the same thing, but then, if we all get 50 of it, then we'd have no more money for GE, SSD, DS, and PS, HH, TB and so on...

I think there are too much investors for this set IMO.

It's cool, it's VW, but come on, it's not the SW death.

 

Within the 3 years after EOL it will make some money but not as much as everybody here is expecting.

It will grow after 3 years of retirement, when new investors will get tired of investing and will be ok to sell them $169/$199.

 

Cool profit (every profit is cool), but will take some time to pass the $200 gap.

No tripple VIP points in the UK mate, double VIP points is the best you're gonna get.
