I'm going to Japan for 7 days to film a documentary.  Any lego sets that I can pick up there that would be a nice profit here in the states?

Even though it's released in China I wonder if you might come across #10250 The Year of the Snake, or even the first CUUSOO #21100 Shinkai at retail price.

Someone recently found Lego monster fighters zombie set at toysrus

Worth at least double here for what ou pay

I would take one if the tip pans out

Thanks for the tips.  I will certainly check it out.  Any other investors want to chime in.  I'm sure I won't be going back, so I want to make the best out of it.

I didn`t see any Monster Fighters Zombies when I was there a couple months ago, but there are plenty of semi-old sets lying around the TRUs and Hakuhinkan Toy Parks (YMMV). Bic Camera sells mostly electronics, but also carries Lego at great rates compared to Canadian prices (although as you are in the US you may not consider them really great though : eg. The Coast Guard 4x4 for 1200 yen compared to US MSRP 19.99) and they will throw in some freebies usually. Regarding TRU, the interesting thing is that they had almost all the promo polybags available at once with a purchase  of --- yen or more. You can also get a lot of NanoBlocks there if you are into them for cheaper prices (go to Bic Camera for these - they even have licensed ones)

The Hakuhinkan Toy Park by Shinbashi station had a couple small retired sets (and a nice city/Star Wars display) Google Maps: https://maps.google.ca/maps?ie=UTF-8&q=hakuhinkan+toy+park&fb=1&gl=ca&hq=hakuhinkan+toy+park&ei=4iVcUrbGH8qLqQHX24D4BQ&sqi=2&ved=0CLUBELYD. There will probably still be some of these still there for 576 yen I think:  http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=8397-1.

Have fun, be safe, and remember to get some of the awesome Kit Kat flavors (http://wildammo.com/2012/05/07/meanwhile-in-japan-bizarre-kit-kat-bar-flavors/#7)!

Speaking of Kit Kats, they seem to have some good resale value too: http://www.ebay.com/itm/KITKAT-JAPAN-ORIGINAL-LIMITED-BOX-12pcs-Special-Flavor-GreenTea-Wasabi-/161118613248  :D

Have a good trip!
