Brickset just announced that we will be getting another Architecture set in 2014 called Marina Bay Sands.  I do not usually collect the Architecture sets, and will probably not get this one, however, the investment potential is amazing, and I have a feeling that the Architecture sets will be a real investment winner.  What are your thoughts on this set?

Hmm.. I've actually drank margueritas on the 95th floor of JH.  You've now got me thinking, could the currently discounted Empire State Building be worth a punt?  I actually liked Sungnyemun as I've been to Seoul too a few times but, it's never been sold in the UK to the best of my knowledge.

 

The Signature Room is a great place to have drinks, and it happens to be where I proposed to my wife.  There is no correlation between the drinks I consumed and my marriage proposal...

 

The Empire State Building could definitely be worth a shot, although it's been out a while (since 2009 in the US).  I love the design of it.

I know, right?  I've fallen hard for the Architecture line (as a hobby investor).  I think your best bets right now are Fallingwater and Imperial Hotel.  Both are Frank Lloyd Wright, and architecture buffs love FLW.  Robie is also FLW, but I'm a little concerned that it's not iconic, and MSRP is really expensive.  That said, I LOVE the actual Robie House (I've been on a tour), have one set and am looking for another 1-2 if I can find them at good discounts. 

 

In the interest of full disclosure, I also have White House, Fallingwater, Sungnyemun, Brandenburg Gate, and Willis Tower so I have a rooting interest in the line.  Most of these were purchased because I found them at >30% discounts and because the line appeals to AFOLs and architecture enthusiasts, both of whom typically have disposable income.

 

My main hesitation with the Architecture line is that the sets tend to last at retail >= 3 years.  Fallingwater falls into this category which could give some pause, but I like this set and think it will still do well.

It looks alright but I'm not super sold on it, maybe after seeing it in person.

Maybe some colors in some sets, but basically they are small tiles, 1x1, 1x2, 1x3 and some small bricks.

 

Did you see the 2012 Employee's Gift set Ole Kirk's House? I was about to buy one of those around September but had my money on the Crawler.

It is more of a hotel but I see where you are coming from.

 

I'd say a casino that you can sleep in.

Some parts are rare like the Brandenburg Gate is the only set thus far with those 'cheese slopes' in sand green.

Also the Architecture sets have printed name plates which are unique to each design.

I think sets will be slow burners, although there's actually two subsets - Landmark and Architecture. The Landmark sets are a bit too quick to build and are a bit pricey for what they are, but the architecture sets are pretty good fun to construct IMHO.

Judging on the piece count, I would have to guess that the MSRP of the set is about $60 - $70 USD. That is just a guess. I have no clue what the official MSRP of the set is.

Really not liking the set... I find UN HQ far cooler looking set. in an overall not a great line for me personally

I asked some relatives living in Singapore to grab me a couple but they sold out in a blink of an eye.

 

They talked to two LEGO representatives and they told them that this set would be available worldwide in 2014, we'll see...

Why would LEGO choose to manufacture and sell sets for this building?  Are such things part of a marketing deal?  I'm guessing all or most of the buildings in the architecture series are in the public domain, i.e. LEGO does not need to pay a fee for the rights to recreate or do some sort of profit sharing deal or some such thing that might go along with a STAR WARS set.  Did LEGO pay Marina Bay Sands to do this or did or did the casino/hotel owner pay LEGO?

 

I ask these questions because for most of the world this building is unknown.  Let me admit I am an architect and I think the buildings the casino industry buildings are horrible.  I don't want this one, but as a fun, futuristic set for a buildings it's kind of fun (like for kids....I still think its crap.)  

 

This LEGO set is a much better object than the actual building.
