Enhance the Brickpicker Database

When we launched the Brickpoints store, I know many of you were probably thinking, "How the heck can I earn that many Brickpoints?"  There will be plenty of ways to earn points and then be rewarded with picking a set you really want.  There are A LOT of LEGO sets!!  Its hard keeping up with all the data, especially as new sets come along.  Well here is where Brickpicker Members can help and earn points for doing so.  Every set guide page will have a link to take you to a data page where you can enter in values (CORRECT VALUES PLEASE :) ) of information that we may not have, or maybe we have wrong.  If we are missing the number of pieces or retail values, you can enter it in here.  There will also be an open text box that will allow you to give details as to where your information came from.  If you want to have it reviewed quickly, please provide good information, links, etc so that we can verify easily. We will be notified that a submission is available to be reviewed.

You can find the link to add/edit information here:

There are plenty of options to help find and more on the way.  There are potentially hundreds of thousands of points to be earned, so that could help many of you make great progress towards getting a set that you want.  Every submission that gets approved is worth 10 Brickpoints for sets before 2000, 5 Brickpoints for newer sets.  When you view the form, the items you see listed in green are data points that we already have in the database.  Then you will see plenty of data points in there that are red that we need.  We are really trying to enhance our retail prices and set dimensions.  This will go a long way for the price guide and classifieds.

Take a look, let me know your thoughts, give it a shot and let's make Brickpicker even better.

I will update my main post with a few Q&A that I have received.

Will we be able to update photos (especially if one doesn't exist)?

Yes, this will be added

What happens if many people submit the same information for the same set?

Basically it will be first come first serve.  I have it set that the first person that gets data approved gets the credit and points, all the other submissions get deleted, so I will not have to worry about duplicated approvals

  • I think there will be a lot more options coming with this.  Minifigures could be a huge addition.  The backbone of the site is the price guide and set information.  The investing aspect is also a majo

  • I noticed that you got more brickpoints. Great job and keep up the good work. Also, your set reviews are amazing, I am still not done reading them.

  • Here is how the boxes should be measured, or look at the dimensions to see how they look. If you have a height of 11 inches on a small set, something is wrong.

My eyes are on the Ninjago display case and the LoTR Tower of Orthanc. Not sure which will be hit first, but chances are that if I fly by the 40,000 mark, then I'll keep going to 100,000. Still this is speculation. :D

Some points will be saved for BC, but not a massive amount, as I don't have very much to sell at the moment. As time progresses, I will probably use some on BC though!

I have my eye on the tower of orthanc. Also any LOTR stuff is good! Or Rancor pit.

How are the brick points going to work with classifieds? do we use it to "pay" for our listings?

Yes, listing sets on Brick Classifieds will be very cost effective. For those of you that are active on the site, there is the possibility of never paying actual cash in fees/commissions.   If you list a set for $35, it will be 35 Brickpoints.  That's it, you are done.  Sell it, no commission.  For those that don't do a lot on the site, you will be able to purchase the points in bulk at very low cost.

Yeah I may use some of these. I kind of want the LOTR pirate ship. I also want a Death Star. Its tough. lol

Right now I am more concerned with getting them and figuring out what to do with them later.

I anticipate using up all my Brickpoints and more on the Classifieds - the free sets are a great incentive, but I'm a merchant and free advertising sounds even better.

I'm saving up my Brickpoints and will see what lies ahead for me to spend them on.

Plus there is the blog brickpoint bonus which I am working on. Last time I did 46 articles in 21 days for about ~14000 brickpoints.

Could I earn 30K brickpoints this time? hmmm

Besides the Falcon, do you guys have your eye set on any particular set?  Are you going to save some of your points to use on Brick Classifieds?

I'm really striving for the Tower of Orthanc or one of the modular builds if I may. Of which, how many Brickpoints would it cost to buy a Fire Brigade or Town Hall? I state both because each has different retails.

wow you already have 34k brickpoints. Crazy!

I want to have either the Falcon or the 10030 ISD. Those are truly amazing sets. I have seen both in person, but I do not own any of them.

Guessing from the Brickpoints, it looks like 1000 = 2 dollars or so.

So $150 = 75,000 brickpoints and $199 = 100,ooo brickpoints for those two sets respectively.

Obviously Jeff and Ed may have a different price, but that would be a good ballpark based on the other sets. There are some that lye outside this.

Technically the Bwing should be 100K, but since you can get it for $150, 75K is about right

Death star is $400, but 250K in the BP store which would really equate to $500.

But go up further and you have a good ratio - 1M BP = $2000 which would be a steal for a Falcon

I think most of the information for the sets have already been updated. It is getting really hard for me to find a set that need information.

Good for you for even trying to figure it out.  There was absolutely no skill at all in making these numbers.  I basically took a set and and added points to it.  We started with a few sets, then fit the rest in where we thought it might work out.  Now that you are doing this scientific stuff.  I think we might raise those values.

:startle: Ah crap....

Pardon another one of my "Brickpoints for a set" questions, how about the Haunted House? I'm leaning towards a modular or that as my first purchase.

Sorry, I think am just getting anxious as heck right now. :hyper:

Oh boy. 1.5 Million for the 10179?  Better get cracking! :geek:

Watch - Ill get to 999K and they will raise it to 2 Million.

Then to be mean I will just buy 200 brickmaster ATATs. Have fun digging that out of your stash.

Is today opposite day and raise actually means lower? *thinks hopefully*

Jeff, I was wondering if maybe you could add a page that shows important missing information for sets such as pieces, box size, etc. Just so that it's easier to know which sets need data. It's not a big deal I just thought it would make finding sets with missing information easier.

Sure that is something I would like to do, I just need to build it.  I will try to find some time this week.

***QUICK EDIT ON SET DATA FORM***

I CHANGED THE ORDER ON THE FORM TO BE LENGTH, WIDTH, HEIGHT, so if you are in a groove on how you entered in the data, take note and make sure you are entering the data in the correct form fields.

Look at you reading my mind. I was gonna ask that. I found a lot that were wrong because of that I believe.

TheOrcKing gets the credit for yelling at me to change this!!

Feel free to smack me around a bit for not noticing earlier. :punish: I was just so focused on entering data like a :locomotive:.

Trust me, no problem here with constructive criticism.  It's the little things like that, that make a difference, easier to use, etc.

Here is a quick snapshot of a few of our dedicated data gatherers.

I'll do more researching tomorrow for data to add :D
