Enhance the Brickpicker Database

When we launched the Brickpoints store, I know many of you were probably thinking, "How the heck can I earn that many Brickpoints?"  There will be plenty of ways to earn points and then be rewarded with picking a set you really want.  There are A LOT of LEGO sets!!  Its hard keeping up with all the data, especially as new sets come along.  Well here is where Brickpicker Members can help and earn points for doing so.  Every set guide page will have a link to take you to a data page where you can enter in values (CORRECT VALUES PLEASE :) ) of information that we may not have, or maybe we have wrong.  If we are missing the number of pieces or retail values, you can enter it in here.  There will also be an open text box that will allow you to give details as to where your information came from.  If you want to have it reviewed quickly, please provide good information, links, etc so that we can verify easily. We will be notified that a submission is available to be reviewed.

You can find the link to add/edit information here:

There are plenty of options to help find and more on the way.  There are potentially hundreds of thousands of points to be earned, so that could help many of you make great progress towards getting a set that you want.  Every submission that gets approved is worth 10 Brickpoints for sets before 2000, 5 Brickpoints for newer sets.  When you view the form, the items you see listed in green are data points that we already have in the database.  Then you will see plenty of data points in there that are red that we need.  We are really trying to enhance our retail prices and set dimensions.  This will go a long way for the price guide and classifieds.

Take a look, let me know your thoughts, give it a shot and let's make Brickpicker even better.

I will update my main post with a few Q&A that I have received.

Will we be able to update photos (especially if one doesn't exist)?

Yes, this will be added

What happens if many people submit the same information for the same set?

Basically it will be first come first serve.  I have it set that the first person that gets data approved gets the credit and points, all the other submissions get deleted, so I will not have to worry about duplicated approvals

  • I think there will be a lot more options coming with this.  Minifigures could be a huge addition.  The backbone of the site is the price guide and set information.  The investing aspect is also a majo

  • I noticed that you got more brickpoints. Great job and keep up the good work. Also, your set reviews are amazing, I am still not done reading them.

  • Here is how the boxes should be measured, or look at the dimensions to see how they look. If you have a height of 11 inches on a small set, something is wrong.

Is there a way to submit pictures for the sets that don't have them?

I have the same problem, I do not know if i have enough time during the school year to do stuff on the site. Maybe a set review once in a while, but not much else. Good thing I still have about 3 weeks till school starts for me.

This new feature is great, and I think everyone will contribute somehow.

Ha - out of school - tons of time!

Yes that will be coming along with a few other additions. I just wanted to start here to iron out any bugs and get an overall sense of how it will work.  So far it is very encouraging

Well this has been active for like 2 hours and there have been about 400 enhancements in total.  So look how the site has just gotten that much better.  There are still THOUSANDS to go.  Here is a quick tally of your Top 5 contributors...

Not bad for a short period of work Mike 1200+ Brickpoints :)

What a great idea! This goes perfectly with the systems already in place for reviews, blog posts, etc. The site will gain content much quicker and everyone will benefit from it. Now I need to get to work on some reviews...

Wow! You are being really generous! Thanks! Now... Back to editing... I see a set within my grasp very soon!

Please don't turn this into another competition, I can't take the pressure anymore lol

Ed is the competition guy so don't look at me, but honestly, I don't think there will be any contests for this. It's really for the site and to help with future projects.  I really just wanted to show how quickly some people amassed a nice amount of points.

Indeed... mike racked up 1200 pretty quickly... still a long long way to go but the Falcon is getting uneasy.  :shifty:

It seems like you guys have a pretty good handle on this.

Please paste/type the links where you are getting this info from, or I will not approve them.  I do trust you, but I would like to know where they are coming from and if you don't have links, then tell me how you are getting the info. Sorry, it has to be this way.

As if I didn't already have an obsessive compulsive disorder with data, now you go and taunt it with this dangling carrot.

Anyway, how about adding images with a higher quality and resolution than ones already used? I know Brickset has been trying to do the same thing of replacing old low quality pics with much better ones for months now.

This is a great way to get people involved in contributing to the site. You guys sure come up with some great plans for us users to get involved and I love it. I'll definitely  be doing some updating om sets.

For set dimensions, do we do the dimensions of the packaging, or the set itself?

I was about to ask the same thing.

I've submitted a few dimensions of the exterior box, not the set itself, and they've been accepted.

Edited to add: actually, now that I look at the site where I got the info, I'm not sure which dimensions they are, it doesn't say.

I would recommend putting a flag or something on items where data has been posted but not approved. I would be unhappy if I spent a few hours submitting data only to find out someone else beat me to it but it just wasnt approved. If you have this already ignore :D

I have thrown a few pieces of information up for a couple of sets to see how it goes.

Jeff is going to have a lot approvals to do next time he is on :D  I've updated weights and dimensions for almost 100 Star Wars sets so far.  :geek:

There's another thing, will people receive a little notification their submitted data was approved and how many points they get? I'm sending a few but wonder if I am helping or not.

I did get notifications and point values for the ones I did earlier today - I was in the first wave so mine got through fast, sorry for all of you (and especially sorry for Jeff's workload!) who are probably stuck in a longer queue now.

Alrighty then, and I can't even imagine how many notices Jeff has to sort through by now. Sheesh.... I'm tweaking info on some oddities so I'm hoping to be first. Hopefully I did everything right in the Information Details box as I added direct set links and some notes.

The box dimensions.  Personally, i would mess up the actual set dimensions big time, so the box is standard, that would work best.

There is now an icon to show that data has been submitted for something but not yet approved.

Yes you will receive notification. You will get them here on the forum in your notification tab.  I will eventually create a log page for you to view all the sets and items that have been submitted and approved.
