Are fruitcakes running rampant on eBay lately? Selling, buying, listing, feedback, etc...

I listed a sealed 30th Gold C3P0 and some person kept emailing and asking how he can find one in a sealed boxed set. Needless to say, he never placed a Buy It Now offer after I asked if he was interested. Then I finally received a decent offer that I accepted. The UK buyer never paid after asking me twice if shipping will require a signature.

I won an open UCS Vader Tie Defender and the seller doesn't want to claim my payment via PayPal. Although feedback was low, his email is legit. I just sent him one.

My son wanted a Batman 1 Batmobile so I won one, Auction stated complete except for the road block. 16 minor elements ended up missing from both vehicles and seller shipped the set in the original lego box (wasn't listed in the auction) w/ supermarket brown paper around it. Never the less, the box was a pleasant surprise.

Feel free to also post any eBay feedback horror stories.

LEGO Reseller: "Hey Grandma, I signed you up for a new eBay account -- I'll handle everything from here"

  • 2 months later...

Sorry not lego related, but hoping someone is knowledgeable on this question.

I'm reviewing a seller's historical feedback.  The seller has been a member since 2022.  When I click on the ebay link of their most recent sale/positive feedback, it takes me to a completely different seller.  What's going on here?

Seller (feedback received as seller):

When clicking on that blue link in the seller's feedback it takes me here (completely different seller):

On the right side of the blue bar, click "view original listing" to see your seller's item.

My guess is eBay F'd up the link

This is the actual sold listing from your seller (same title: Size 10 ...)

https://www.ebay.com/itm/296872805927?epid=8053145154&itmmeta=01JF3CEDN0P5KFS0QT3PTD172Z&hash=item451eff8627:g:hI0AAOSwXclnMC6E

The one you linked was me, lol.  This review I shared above existed before I purchased.  I just didn't click the link in the review until things started to seem a little shady with the seller.  2 shipping days have now gone by and they haven't shipped off to authenticator yet so I reached out to seller.  Seller shared that they are waiting for the shoes to arrive so they can ship to authenticator.  They are hoping to receive them in a couple days.  That caught my attention.  Seller now saying previous buyer cancelled after being shipped to authenticator so seller is awaiting for them to be returned so can be shipped to auth for me.  My personal opinion is never list an item for sale until/unless it is in your possession.  Now I'm just pissed at the seller because I'm waiting at least an extra 4 shipping days on an item I perceived was available when I purchased.  Doesn't help that it's a Christmas gift.

*Disregard all this... I now realize it's just another thing I can't stand about how ebay operates.  When you click on the link to view the sold listing of which was reviewed, it takes me to another current listing of the same shoe because the one I was accessing is sold.  How stupid.  You then have to click another link to get to the listing for which the review was for.  If I wanted to see other suggestions I wouldn't be clicking on a link from a review.  I swear some of this crap that is developed isn't ever tested from the users perspective.

I never understood how some eBay sellers operate like this. They essentially piss off their buyers and damage their eBay metrics.

Most likely not.  eBay is basically a personal playground of their C-suite team

"purchased 2018" 😳

Sold an Ocean Explorer on Dec 14th and shipped it out right away. It got stuck in Minnesota and didn't move. Christmas and New Year’s came and went. I provided tracking as Ebay suggested when the buyer complained, hoping the package would move. I also initiated a package search and directed it be sent back to me if found. The buyer then opened up a case on EBay and also filed a chargeback with his acac company. With him opening the case, Ebay literally wouldn't let me process a refund until it was resolved in ten days. All the while, the buyer is fairly rude about his refund. Refund initiates in ten days. A week later, the package gets delivered to the buyer, even though I asked it be directed back to me when found. So, the buyer gets a refund, the chargeback, AND my LEGO set? Not a bad deal.

Yep, its crazy when that happens.  Had the same thing happen to me with Amazon last year.

This fruitcake requires a little knowledge on the difference between 10020-1 (non-limited Santa Fe engine) and 10020-2 (limited Santa Fe Engine). Basically, there are 3 differences between the sets:

  1. A unique numbered tile (with Axxxx serial number)
  2. A tile with LEGO logo
  3. A box with the "Limited Edition" bar on it

Out of these, 1 & 2 are the most valuable (in terms of need to have to call a set Limited). Look at this listing, especially at the Item Description:

The LA address is most likely a forwarder. It will get delivered there and you'll be home free. They can forward it to Bulgaria and it doesn't matter what happens once it arrives there. If they try and say that something was broken or not as described, they would have to send it back. They won't. This has always been my experience.

You won't here anything from anyone. This isn't uncommon at all.

Are they returning it from LA or Bulgaria. You are only responsible to get it to LA.  When you get it back check the seal codes to see if they match what you sent.

Returning from LA doubt it ever left the USA. Seems they were using fake just set up account. Its amazing Ebay sided with them Ebay messaged me as soon as it is shown has delivered to me they will refund there money plus shipping cost.I garuntee it will not be the same condition.Ebay will still side with the buyer. Its well know E bay does not care about the seller.

Stinks, but you didn't have any option but to send it. It will be interesting to see what comes back. My guess is that you won't even get the same set back.

If I did not send it Ebay will still charge me a final value fee. The set is being returned from Rogers Minnesota. The set was delivered in Los Angeles close to me.I will have to pay for the shipping from Minnesota. What I think is going on is a buyer from fake account purchased the item and had it sent to a friend. They sold it to a buyer in Minnesota .The person in Minnesota will send some junk back. The person in Los Angeles gets there money back and the person in Minnesota gets a new set which they sold him at a cheaper price. I am the only one out for $700 .Ebay help support this scam beware.

What is the weight of the return? If you do not get back exactly what you sent you file a claim and hopefully get refunded as well.

Did you accept the return or did the buyer file a SNAD?

If you accept the return then when you get it back you can offer a partial refund, minus shipping both ways, item condition, etc.
If the buyer cries and whines and leaves negative feedback eBay will automatically remove the neg feedback and side with you.

If the buyer filed a SNAD, you are **** out of luck. eBay will always side with the buyer and now you automatically have to eat shipping both ways, refund in full and not only can the buyer leave negative feedback but there is nothing you, the seller, can do about it.
