Are fruitcakes running rampant on eBay lately? Selling, buying, listing, feedback, etc...

I listed a sealed 30th Gold C3P0 and some person kept emailing and asking how he can find one in a sealed boxed set. Needless to say, he never placed a Buy It Now offer after I asked if he was interested. Then I finally received a decent offer that I accepted. The UK buyer never paid after asking me twice if shipping will require a signature.

I won an open UCS Vader Tie Defender and the seller doesn't want to claim my payment via PayPal. Although feedback was low, his email is legit. I just sent him one.

My son wanted a Batman 1 Batmobile so I won one, Auction stated complete except for the road block. 16 minor elements ended up missing from both vehicles and seller shipped the set in the original lego box (wasn't listed in the auction) w/ supermarket brown paper around it. Never the less, the box was a pleasant surprise.

Feel free to also post any eBay feedback horror stories.

Update to this crazy story.  Of course the buyer never returned the item and never sent any documentation verifying they received their package with rat feces inside.  I called eBay

selling same item, same condition, same everything

I am using stock photo, they are using their own (no biggie)

"quit copy and pasting my listings, it is against ebay terms, blah blah blah"

my description is literally 2 sentences. The other listing has a bunch of crap from some external website that they copy and pasted that I omitted.

I sent a reply.....with an offer, for all of mine at a increased price

if it is someone here, take a chill pill, its literally the same listing, how creative do I need to get with my two sentences, every single listing will say about the same thing

Ask them what pieces are missing and offer to replace them.

SMH at the latest development. Finally got a response from the buyer that she could only get to step 3 of building the AT-RT from the latest clone turbo tank set and couldn't continue "as there are too many missing pieces". Just gonna have her do a return and fight this with eBay. I really hope she sends me everything back so I can file a claim against her for abusing eBay's SNAD return policy. Grrrrr.

97306c368f87d4b9a6bdf190e1866672.pngbargain! In for 3

Got a IRB listed at £199.99 or best offer. I know it's a little high but I'm in no rush to sell.

anyway some loon offered £85. I said "I presume you accidentally missed a 1 off the start of that figure!?"

no reply :)

That´s not a little high. The others are just too damn low.

Good shout!!!! :)

Sometimes people list at crazy prices becuase there is a ebay final value fee promo on and they haven't got time to edit listing.

i.e. list set for crazy amount as fvf promo ends in midnight, edit listing afterwards when have time.

Last time the puy in T+C that the listing could not be modified once posted. Never actually tested that out, though.

You can change listing details / price etc. I don't think you can change ebay category

I realize this is fruitcakes on Ebay thread, but I did not where else to put this:

Sold a used 6036 Skeleton's Surprise with box and instructions for $10.75 on BL. The buyer is bulking at the $22.75 shipping cost to South Korea and and is asking if I can lower it to $12 using another shipping method besides the small box I have already packed it in that weighs less than 12 ounces with the set, etc. in it.  Buyer has mentioned twice about cancelling the order.  Seems like too much time and effort to appease the buyer for a small sale I feel I should cancel the order by mutual agreement between the buyer and seller. What are your thoughts and how much how have you or would you charge to send a 12 ounce package to South Korea from eastern United States? I welcome your thoughts.

I have not shipped the set yet.

Edited by LegoWalker4

If it cost $22.75 to ship, then charge that much. If the customer doesn't want to pay that much, they can look else where.  The customer is NOT always right.  And if they're complaining now there a good chance they'll be trying for a partial refund.  Just kindly agree to cancel the order and hope they find a better provider.

If you're listing at £199.99, i better put my price up.  Was going to sell a couple at £150 but got greedy & opted for £180ish.  Not sold one.  £225 sounds like a nice number.

I've changed category, price, photos, title etc & everything except quantity.
If you edit the quantity it adds a fee so I cancelled the edit.  I'm not sure if you still get the fvf offer as it might cancel the offer if you modify some details.

Once it didnt add a fee when i edited the quantity but i noticed i didnt get the fvf offer.....so wont be doing that again.

I have a dilemma and need some advice. Last month I bought an advertised NEW 42000 Technic Grand Prix Racer on eBay for $85 + $35 shipping.

After receiving the item and hearing loose parts inside box, and being able to reach inside box and pull out half assembled pieces, I determined it is obviously NOT NEW. I requested a refund. The seller still insists it was new, but says I can return it and get a full refund, but I have to pay shipping costs ($15)

My question is, it's now my word against his, on whether it's new or not new, how do I protect myself when he gets the return and possibly insists that I opened it and denies a refund?

I know there are a lot of what ifs, but I am mad for several reasons:

1. Item advertised new, but used.

2. Packaging was abysmal and I felt like I paid a premium for it.

3. I don't want to pay $15 to ship it back.

4. If I keep item, open it the rest of the way and find missing parts, then what do I do?!

Open up an item not as described case.

Shipping packaging looks good enough for lego box not to be in such an obviously worn and deteriorated state. SNAD it but 85 USD seems pretty darn cheap for a new item that retired 2 years ago. Sometimes you get what you pay for, even if the listing was misleading.

SNAD, and I agree with Val-E, unless $85 is a typo, you did not pay a premium for this set.

The only thing is it's not new. No guarantee if all the parts are there.

Open a SNAD case. You will 100% win and eBay won't make you pay return shipping.

I feel I paid a premium for the shipping only. Price would have been a steal, if it was new. It obviously is not.

Thanks for info. do I get reimbursed for the shipping after it's returned?

Sorry, you paid $120 for the item.  That is the oldest trick on eBay.

Or look at it this way, for $35 shipping item should have been at least shipped in brand new corrugated box, not some homemade slice and dice job that did not protect the item from any kind of pressure

After you open the case and are granted a return, a prepaid label will be sent to you to use (you do not pay).

Yup. You get a 100% refund including shipping.

The box did it´s job. I prefer cut to size boxes than those big ones that just crumple inwards and damage the goods. Point taken about the shipping cost, I quickly read only 15 usd but then realised that´s the return. That would be another thing to complain about - why is the return cost so much cheaper than the original one? Seems the seller is skimming money off the top.
