I'm interested in hearing about the rarest sets/minifigures/pieces that everyone has been fortunate to own. So what was the single rarest LEGO product you have/had? Is it part of your personal collection, or are you planning on selling it?

 

Up until today, the rarest set I currently own was 3300003, LEGO Store Set. However, since I have started to collect the Superman theme in its entirety, I splurged and bought myself the 2012 SDCC Bizarro Minifigure. 

 

 

 

Now I am lucky enough to own every Superman set/minifigure that has been produced (until the SDCC 2013 minifig comes out). So show off your most prized possession so the rest of us can drool over it!!!!

I have set no 336 with it's box and instructions in fair condition from 1968. Bought it off eBay for $20, worth approx $45 for a 76 piece set..

I guess boxed 1584 (older brother of 6060)

Since I sold Market Street, I would now say Cafe Corner or 10030 are the rarest I have

I got a 10188 finally - which is worth the most. I don't know that it is the rarest, but a big step for me.

 

Other than that, I do have a Final Duel 2 which while not worth a ton of money, may be less prevalent than any other set I own.

 

Or I guess maybe the 41999?

41999 or a new imperial shuttle and a 4195. Not rare but cool.

Haven't been doing this long enough to have much but my most rare is probably my sealed celebv-1 I guess.

Mine is probably the 6277 Imperial Trading Post from 1992.  Not sure how rare it is though?

Probably the zombies set, and the 40076 grave digger poly bag.

no, they are a company i have worked with before - they are great! this is on a consignment basis. If someone offered me the right amount, i would sell, but for now, its all mine.

Got it. I have purchased from them in the past and have always wondered where do they find that many rare and valuable figs lol. Did not know the offered to sell items for others, nice info to have.

Personally, I would not see pieces like that sell for much in the next 2 -3 years thanks to the 3D printers. Unless some form of authenticity is offered, it will be hard to convince potential buyers that such pieces are genuine.

Please do not think that I am disputing the authenticity of your piece.

It can be seen with the number of "cloned" Mr Golds selling out there . It looks like the real thing but without the proof of being the genuine article, such facsimiles don't help the cause of those who possess the real thing.

I wish I had some prototype pieces myself, more for the uniqueness of the item as opposed to the investment value. It is a very subjective thing to value such things. The same goes for store displays or Lego built custom sets

I think the Batmobile is the rarer of the 2.

Just found two promo Lego Stanley cups that have been hiding in my collection for years. Pretty rare (not even on Brickset or Bricklink!), I think they were given out at TRU or something sometimes between 2002-2005, might have been a Canadian exclusive I'm not really sure. Here's a pic (not mine):

I've never seen let alone heard about that item. Neat. Well, aside from the sticker and chrome 2 x 2 cylinders, I could pretty much build that. I haven't the foggiest as to actual worth but I could imagine any fan of hockey would get a kick (or should I say slapshot) out of it.

Yeah it only has like seven parts, 2 of them rare (plus the sticker). They handed it out built from my memory. I probably won't sell either, way too cool to have. Now if only TLG rekindles their license with the NHL... They could do 2 minifigure series and cover every one of the 30 teams, plus a ref and Gary Bettman (for us to abuse ). Actually, that could work well for all sports leagues...
