No, it doesn't matter how much you put on the credit card.  $0.01 is enough to trigger 2x rewards on the whole purchase.  Just be sure you slide the TRU card first at the POS terminal.

​I've been holding off too.  I'm waiting for a good time when some exclusives are in stock so I can use the first purchase discount (15% I think) to max it out.  

I used the current tru 15% off coupon and my discounted babiesrus giftcard to get myself the Jurassic world indominous rex breakout (75919) for $98.99 + tax

If I were to open a TRU cc account today, would I get 75055 for 1399.99 - 20% (BOGO) - 15% for TRU CC discount first day?

I believe that is correct.  Those deals don't stack.  The 15% first day is good on all purchases for the first day that you sign up no matter how many times you check out.
