Can't see the high returns with the new sets.

More hoarders + the sets in general...

I get the more hoarders, but what do you think made those other sets have much better returns besides just not as much competition?

  • Here you go. Are likes important? ^^ Anyway, I find it interesting that the City Vulcan sets are also seem to be done. They are from last year, so they are not really that old. Did a pretty good

  • I'm feeling generous and seems Cladner and Val-E are working to hard at this,  might as well simplify their jobs for the holidays.  Plus some of these need to disappear quicker... 10815

  • Chris, I think you're coming in at a time where the LEGO reselling party is coming to an end. I'm not saying there is no more money to be made; what I'm saying is that the ship is full and the general

Village and Cave were legendary.
I don't think any currently available MC set can do the same. Look at the sets.
I only have a couple Disney Castles, picked them up cheap, I'll let them sit hoping for retirement @ 2020. Probably not gonna risk buying more.
21144 and 21146 have both already doubled in value and are just recently retired... are these legendary as well?

You just answered your own question. The oldest rule in the book is supply/demand.

Supply high, demand low = lower return

Supply low, demand high = higher return

No, they aren't. Here in Germany 3 have sold in the past 2 months in eBay. I don't call that demand. What does double mean if you can't sell?

How many listed?

Different markets then... without taking the time to verify, a quick look at US Ebay shows 50x 21144 and 94x 21146 sold in the last 3 months... demand isn't outrageous by any means, but good enough to make a decent profit on a short hold time.

8 listed for 21146, 10 listed for 21144, low supply!

But all MC sets are "rare" here, not many in the market.

Lowest price for 21144 is 109 (RRP=60) and for 21146 is 85 (RRP=50).

Not amazing by any means.

With Mountain Cave it's a different story, 250€ RRP here, (very few) people bought in at ~175€. Now sells on eBay for 500€. If you list for 400 it's gone right away. Christmas will push this set to 550-600 for sure. The great thing: Selling only one set for a decent profit, not comparable to the small stuff.

That's what I call legendary!

Minecraft tends to be quite seasonal so I think we have to reserve judgement till after one EOL Christmas but when a set has single figure sellers less than  a year after retiring then it is pretty much a winner and only selling slowly because the reseller scum with copies are gouging like champions.

As OCP says, see Elves for more of the same.

Minecraft can be hit or miss. Just ask anyone who went in big on 21122.

Or 21107. Im still sitting on 2 shelves of half off clearance from what...like 4 years ago probably

Yeah, I am not trying that all minecraft sets are winners. But, I would say a higher percentage of minecraft sets perform well after retirement than many other popular lines such as Star Wars, Friends, Disney Princess, Technic and possibly Super Heroes.

There are solid notable preforming sets eol from Minecraft but the number of sets released each year is exceedingly low in number vs all the themes you mentioned, so it may be a reaction to market over saturation for the other themes. But really I have no idea how or why it is successful.

Any info on what's happening with Toy Story sets? I know they were just released this year, but since they're all essentially "juniors" sets (now 4+), are they expected to hang around next year?

given that no one has popped the cork on these retiring i'm optimistically guessing they are prime candidates for a mid year 2020 retirement.

All info can be useful, thanks for the post:)

Somewhat random info that may or may not mean anything in regards to retirement: I was at my local lego store the other day and an employee was building the disney castle. I said i figured you guys would already have a built one from when it came out. he said we did but we were told to send it back awhile ago and now they told us to build another one.

They were building a Hogwarts Castle at mine. It's all based on whether sales of a large set are good or not, at least that is what the manager of my local store told me.

Throwing a question of curiosity out there to you more knowledgeable ones....one of the surprises to me on that retirement list was the fact that Harvester Transport was on there whereas Heavy Cargo Transport was not....I understand the list is not all inclusive, but I was surprised to see Harvester Transport on there....any additional knowledge would be appreciated!

It must be going. It's got to make way for another three helicopters.
