Retiring Soon - open speculation

To continue an earlier thread, here are the sets listed on S@H as "Retiring Soon":

Friends - Stephanie's Cool Convertible, Olivia's Speedboat, Mia's Bedroom, Series 1 foil packs

Duplo - Train Starter Set, Doctor's Clinic, Emergency Helicopter

Creator - Apple Tree House

Lego Games - Ninjago, Pirate Plank

Chima Speedorz - CHI Battles, Ring of Fire, Target Practice, CHI Waterfall

Technic - Mini Container Truck

LOTR - Gandalf Arrives, Orc Forge

CMF - Series 9

Architecture - Sugnyemun

Marvel Super Heroes - Captain America's Avenging Cycle

Star Wars - Endor Rebel Trooper and Imperial Trooper Battle Pack, Planet Bespin & Twin Cloud Car, Planet Endor & AT-ST

Nothing earth-shattering.  Orc Forge surprises me the most.

  • Here you go. Are likes important? ^^ Anyway, I find it interesting that the City Vulcan sets are also seem to be done. They are from last year, so they are not really that old. Did a pretty good

  • I'm feeling generous and seems Cladner and Val-E are working to hard at this,  might as well simplify their jobs for the holidays.  Plus some of these need to disappear quicker... 10815

  • Chris, I think you're coming in at a time where the LEGO reselling party is coming to an end. I'm not saying there is no more money to be made; what I'm saying is that the ship is full and the general

To get back on topic, once again Lego have released more D2c sets than the retiring ones. Of special note is the bloated car range with Beetle and Bus both on long runs apart from our dear friend T1.

I agree, I'm surprised the Beetle and London bus would stick around. They don't seem to be big sellers.

I'm fearing I may have gone a little too deep on them both. The mini coopers are doing quite well for me though.

If Saturn V is going, I need to get deep in those quick, I only have a few.
I don't care how many people stockpile them, I'm confident demand will be high enough..

So according to the Brick Fan list, Mythical Creatures (31073) is retiring, but the older 31058 Mighty Dinosaurs is not. I guess the Mighty Dinosaurs are really good sellers then! :P

In theory there’s the draw of having an entry level Dino instead of paying for a JW or giant USC sized T Rex. Dinosaurs are becoming the new mechs.

Remember, just because something is retiring doesn’t mean it will fly off the shelf. A number of these sets will linger at retailers for awhile. My local Belk is now carrying Lego, so the field of stores post TOU collapse continues to expand.

Only appeals to Bugatti enthusiasts/owners who are also LEGO enthusiasts.

btw it’s not in the Christmas LEGO catalog here, this has (nearly) always been reliable source of what’s reached EOL

besides it’s a fugly car both ways.

also Porsche is not in the catalog

Why are you trying to sell one now, and for what price?

Take a look on BrickLink

31058 has been one of the most popular sets since it came out, even 4 years later, still selling incredibly well. I don't think they'll retire it until it stops selling the way it does. A few of my regional retailers have stopped carrying it, but I know it continues to move.

As far as investment, it's been pretty well hoarded and has been avail at more or less perma discount for a while, so I am skeptical as to the long term returns (and when they do replace it it will be with something very similar) - but a flexible Dinosaur set for $12 and 174 pieces is obviously the sweet spot for LEGO itself. ;)

31058 is done also,  just not on those lists.

This list is undoubtedly missing items. I highly doubt it is comprehensive.

I wasn't asking Joneyyy because I don't know the price, I was asking to determine why they can't be given away, and why one would wish to sell now. A non-D2C set being available at a big discount goes without saying.

Buy-in too damn high and too damn soon, probably. This has been available for around 200 euros, similar to a decent discount on the 911 so anyone paying more than that will not be able to sell at this time.

Anyway, the Chiron is a 2020 retirement so we are getting a little ahead of ourselves.

I think £180 or below is the going rate for quick sales on Gumtree / FB.

the Apocalypseburg listing on Walmart has been removed entirely it seems. At least I don't find it. I did find it through my wish list but not search bar.

I wouldn't count on it being done.

If its not, then this will be a new era of investing, if you cant even rely on normal production cycles for Creator/City. I hope you are wrong.

It's been out three years. Maybe it's the T1 of low priced Creator sets.

Consistent top 10 seller, decent price point - I can understand why it could have got an extension but AFAIK it was down for extinction this year.

Just because it is extinct does not mean LEGO will put it away for good

It already had an extension, normal life span is 24 month at least in the past if I researched correctly.

21320 not sold out yet? What’s (not) happening?
