Retiring Soon - open speculation

To continue an earlier thread, here are the sets listed on S@H as "Retiring Soon":

Friends - Stephanie's Cool Convertible, Olivia's Speedboat, Mia's Bedroom, Series 1 foil packs

Duplo - Train Starter Set, Doctor's Clinic, Emergency Helicopter

Creator - Apple Tree House

Lego Games - Ninjago, Pirate Plank

Chima Speedorz - CHI Battles, Ring of Fire, Target Practice, CHI Waterfall

Technic - Mini Container Truck

LOTR - Gandalf Arrives, Orc Forge

CMF - Series 9

Architecture - Sugnyemun

Marvel Super Heroes - Captain America's Avenging Cycle

Star Wars - Endor Rebel Trooper and Imperial Trooper Battle Pack, Planet Bespin & Twin Cloud Car, Planet Endor & AT-ST

Nothing earth-shattering.  Orc Forge surprises me the most.

  • Here you go. Are likes important? ^^ Anyway, I find it interesting that the City Vulcan sets are also seem to be done. They are from last year, so they are not really that old. Did a pretty good

  • I'm feeling generous and seems Cladner and Val-E are working to hard at this,  might as well simplify their jobs for the holidays.  Plus some of these need to disappear quicker... 10815

  • Chris, I think you're coming in at a time where the LEGO reselling party is coming to an end. I'm not saying there is no more money to be made; what I'm saying is that the ship is full and the general

Available again in US (max 5 pcs) and EU (max 20 pcs) for order.

Yup, this wil be the last mammoth production run and I guess they will soon be absolutely everywhere.

... what happened to my special (presumably) The Last One (".. that I can see on stock, block it in the warehouse and 'make an order for you'...) .. ? ?

Told you it was BS. Might have been the last from that batch but the next one of 50.000 will put that right.

Then the employees have got a directive from upper management to tell every potential buyer that the set is almost done (independent from the current supply state)...

or

The employees really see that only one set is avilable in storage location but it does not mirror the true warehouse state...

I have no idea.. she also told me (at the time Mr. Wu was listed as sold on EU shop) that they probably would get yet another shipment as they still have "a few"  - and that "a few" certainly doesnt mean thousands. so take your pick.

Well they are  hardly likely to say they have 20.000 in the warehouse, are they? Working hard for their Xmas bonuses.

That's because you never put a motor in them. :P

Think I will stick with what I have already got on these, looks like everyone is on the bandwagon now anyway and they are a poor seller.

Until yesterday this set didn't have the Retiring Soon label yet, but just now I noticed 21306 Yellow Submarine does now also have carry that label in LEGO Shop at Home EU:

Good thing I ordered 10 for 39.99 each recently :D

WOW! This will follow the success of Wall-E, I hope!

I dont share your enthusiasm..  my reasons why this sub wont beat Wallie:

a) Wall-E was truly greatly designed - like "alive" ..
b  .. whoever / most of the ppl who saw that movie considered Wall-E cute thing - sub is really not CUTE
c) I cant somehow put together fans of LEGO and fans of Beetles.. true that many exist, but do they have more fans that some "cute" robot.. ? (which looks kinda like the one from 80's movie Short Circuit)

Sorry, I dont agree.

1) Wall-E is nice set, but the movie is old and not legendary. It has some fans, but cannot compare with famous movies. Beatles fan base is much more stronger. Everybody knows Beatles.

2) Wall-E can be built with standard bricks, Beatles not - you cannot replace 4 figs. If Beatles retired, there is no chance to have Beatles figs anymore. You can just build a submarine itself.

But you never know :-)

this is a discussion forum and its totally inevitable (and normal) that ppl have difference of opinions. as for the fans base, question: I guess that most of the ppl born in 50's just loved Beetles.. can you imagine giving your folks "four exclusive Beetles minifigs" and expect them to look thrilled what a great collectors / reminder object to have? .. i just cant.. Beetles generation is now mostly in their 60+ and they just dont have much appreciation for stuff like this..

again, I could be wrong. So could you :)

The Beatles fan base span many generations, especially in the U.K. It draws some parallels with Lego. It'll be a massive hit.

haha.. Im probably not even qualified to be a part of this thread - since I cant even spell the band name properly :D ..  my apologizes to all fans.

Perhaps the debate should be whether Beatles or Caterham will do better.

I think Lego/Beatles is niche for sure. We got my father-in-law the Beatles sub last Christmas and he built it and displayed it for a while, but really he's more interested in getting every single Beatles book and recording that gets released. But I can't imagine every die-hard Beatles fan doesn't already have one of these if they wanted it. Wall-E was popular with older millennials (like me) who enjoyed Lego as kids and now are having kids and watching Pixar movies with our kids and thinking, dang, I want that Lego Wall-E.
