TLG is private, so don't see a take-over as a possibility.

Everybody has got their price, maybe Trump has made them an offer as he's gonna need a lot of bricks soon!

  • Here you go. Are likes important? ^^ Anyway, I find it interesting that the City Vulcan sets are also seem to be done. They are from last year, so they are not really that old. Did a pretty good

  • I'm feeling generous and seems Cladner and Val-E are working to hard at this,  might as well simplify their jobs for the holidays.  Plus some of these need to disappear quicker... 10815

  • Chris, I think you're coming in at a time where the LEGO reselling party is coming to an end. I'm not saying there is no more money to be made; what I'm saying is that the ship is full and the general

Why not? I know many people who sold their private company.

According to my filter there ar 580 sets on SAH right now and more than half are retiring "soon". There will be about 50-75 new sets coming out in 1H 2017 and maybe the same amount in the summer so that would leave about 450 by this time next year.

I guess this is the day the bubble burst.

Quite the opposite, if LEGO call it a day, it's kerrrrrr-ching for a lot of us ;-)

Hopefully they've finally realised that they produce too many sets and need to consolidate a bit.

Yeah, but it wouldn't be hostile then though? I don't know a lot about this kind of stuff, but doesn't a hostile takeover typically involve some party buying up stocks until they get a majority without the consent of the board / owners of the company.

I still assume that this is just a bug of the new website.

If it were to be a bug it would affect all 580 sets. Wouldn't it?

TLG does their Springtime Cleaning in the November/December months. :D

There are no "weird" sets in the list. It´s all either old stuff or turds. Rationalisation.

Maybe hostile was not the right word. With hostile I meant a take-over by the competition. Like Mattel or maybe even Disney.

But it is quite logical that if they sell the company they want to show high sales. So the more they are gonna get.

Maybe Lepin made them an offer they couldn't refuse?

Well, I'd say that the Winter Holiday Train set (10254) which got just released recently is a really odd inclusion in this list.

Santa's Workshop. Retired and came back 2 times already?

I don't think this list is vastly different than the amount of sets that have retired in the past--but in the past they don't label all of them.

Maybe it's just a new policy, label all the retiring sets. Seems a simpler explanation that all the conspiracy/foil hat stuff.

Occam's razor, y'know.

All depends on the definition of "soon". Maybe soon is something like February. It would make sense to cut production after the holidays and then bring it out of retirement again next year (if it sells well enough).

Well, the Elves sets have moved like turds off a shovel so some have retired soon.

Not odd for Europe.

True. Europe always "retires" the winter sets and brings 'em back... and it always causes debate.

Ultra Agents boat retired before it was launched in Europe. We are classy like that.

I hope so but something makes me feel very uneasy about putting any money into this brand these days. Something is changing and I don't know if it is good or bad for resellers.

Didn't someone recently post that TLG was going to do a major makeover this year? Maybe cleaning house is part of that process?

Pulling out of China would be a good start.
