Is 79110 the first LR set to be marked retired?

Mah, cavalry builder, the train, comanche Camp and colby city were all already marked as retired.  The silver mine was holding our probably due to stock sitting in a warehouse somewhere that they finally liquidated to stores like Ross/Marshals/Tuesday Morning

The Stagecoach and a lone ranger key chain are the last ones still marked as Sold Out but not retired -- either sitting forgotten in a back room at one of the bigger LEGO stores, or long since stolen/salvaged but still mistakenly listed in inventory.

So the "current" key take away is to search for "retired product" and see which "sold out" sets display. Those are the sets that are retiring before the official label /tag is assigned. Many of us have been doing this since last Oct and it's pretty accurate.

Since we're in the retiring soon thread, I would guess that he hopes some exclusives are retiring soon, not being released.

If that's the case, it wouldn't surprise me if it was gone for good already, especially given the rise in people investing in sets.

I am absolutely positive its gone. I already repeated this many times the last week on this forum. If I am wrong, I will be really really really surprised and disappointed.

Lego said that the set has limited production, but I'm not sure how limited it is.

Mars rover sold out in belgium and not able to add to bag. Seems gone to me! Which is very fast! Could it?

I'm also looking at the LEGO Shop at Home site, and I would imagine that any set with "New" still labeled on it wouldn't go straight to the retired list. That would be counterproductive to Lego, wouldn't it? Customers would see the "New" sign and expect it to still be there for a little while and purchase later...

Yes and no. 41999 was available for something to the effect of 12 hours back in August last year. Yes it made a comeback a couple months later, but it was still available for only a short time. That would be the most recent example of limited production runs, so it isn`t out of the question for Lego doing it again.

 

Minecraft could be seen as an example a couple years back. The set came in and went out of stock over and over and over again, until Lego decided to add it to a regular production run (or so it seems given the 2 other sets and upcoming theme later this year). Could the Rover come back again? Absolutely, we don`t know until Lego marks it "retired" and even then we don`t know 100% (Catwomen set last year).

If it is selling better than expected I bet they will bring it back. Demand has obviously been high for this set. It has stayed in stock for only a few hours each time it has been available.

Whenever I read a forum with members speculating about which set will retire, I rarely here Tower Bridge mentioned. I believed it was released the same year as GE and almost everyone is convinced GE is retiring.

That's because we're all tired from debating it! I remember a few long threads debating and re-debating the retirement of the FB and TB about 8 months ago.  

 

On a related note, I actually thought it would retire back in January, but I think LEGO won't retire it until the turn of the year. I also think that if the SSD doesn't retire right around May 4th, it won't retire until December 2014/January 2015.
