Retiring Soon - open speculation

To continue an earlier thread, here are the sets listed on S@H as "Retiring Soon":

Friends - Stephanie's Cool Convertible, Olivia's Speedboat, Mia's Bedroom, Series 1 foil packs

Duplo - Train Starter Set, Doctor's Clinic, Emergency Helicopter

Creator - Apple Tree House

Lego Games - Ninjago, Pirate Plank

Chima Speedorz - CHI Battles, Ring of Fire, Target Practice, CHI Waterfall

Technic - Mini Container Truck

LOTR - Gandalf Arrives, Orc Forge

CMF - Series 9

Architecture - Sugnyemun

Marvel Super Heroes - Captain America's Avenging Cycle

Star Wars - Endor Rebel Trooper and Imperial Trooper Battle Pack, Planet Bespin & Twin Cloud Car, Planet Endor & AT-ST

Nothing earth-shattering.  Orc Forge surprises me the most.

  • Here you go. Are likes important? ^^ Anyway, I find it interesting that the City Vulcan sets are also seem to be done. They are from last year, so they are not really that old. Did a pretty good

  • I'm feeling generous and seems Cladner and Val-E are working to hard at this,  might as well simplify their jobs for the holidays.  Plus some of these need to disappear quicker... 10815

  • Chris, I think you're coming in at a time where the LEGO reselling party is coming to an end. I'm not saying there is no more money to be made; what I'm saying is that the ship is full and the general

When do we think the Ninjago Movie range will retire?

From what I've been reading and learnt so far I think these are some of the best looking sets Lego have ever done.

Some in the summmer, some in the winter and the rest next year.

And if it’s anything like the T1 Camper Van and Tower Bridge - never.

Never say never....

Mindstorms is getting on a bit too.

Hi, what Lego sets do you think will be retiring soon? I bought the Lego two-face chase set before it retired. My question is, does the price go up for retired sets? And how do you know when it will retire?

The Batcave has been retiring soon for almost a year now.

That's good to know, is there a way to tell if it will retire?

Shop At Home...it's what Lego calls their online shop.

Also known as the IT dumpster fire.

That's good to know.? Thank you for clearing that up for me.

Does the price rise when a set retires?

Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't.

Take for example LEGO Star Wars 75140 Resistance Troop Transporter. It retired December 2016 (USA), early 2017 (Europe). The LEGO RRP (recommended retail price) was $69.99 (USA), €69.99 (Germany), €79.99 (Netherlands). Until now this set is still available on Bricklink for about 50% off RRP, one year after it retired!

Okay, granted, that's one of the worst examples I could give. :P  But price/value rise of a set after it retires is not a given. It really depends on the set, on the prolonged demand for it after it officially retires, on the amount produced of the set while it was in production, on the amount of rare / unique minifigs or printed LEGO elements included in the set.

Just so you know: there are plenty of Brickpicker members here who have been in this 'game' for years, who still struggle to only pick the right sets that will increase in value after retirement, and to avoid the bad sets that completely fail to increase in value (so called turds on this site ;)). It's not an exact science but based on sentiments and unpredictable effects.

I found some websites ware they tell you about which sets are retiring soon, If you want to know, go and search on the web for (What Lego Sets Are Retiring Soon) And see what you get.

My opinion, the biggest chances at retirement from your list are probably the Porsche and 10243.
