  • Chris, I think you're coming in at a time where the LEGO reselling party is coming to an end. I'm not saying there is no more money to be made; what I'm saying is that the ship is full and the general

Throw them in the prize pool for the St. Paul's School raffle. :)

I do not think that is a good idea. Who will be buying tickets then?

The 10218 is the tipping point in my opinion.  The current Modulars are going to be less popular than the Pet Shop (..and are).  The good news is that one (or more) of the current and future Modulars could be a huge success, because people are moving away from them and they could retire early due to lack of sales.

Pet owners who love LEGO.  I hope you aren't entering a raffle for possible investment candidates.

In the Netherlands there is a lotery where a part of the money they receive from the players goes to charity. Every time people win a big price they ask them how long they are playing the lotery and why.

Their answers are always the same... for charity.

I agree, I think it could be the most significant retirement to date. At the back of my mind, I think the Palace Cinema will disappear without warning? TBH... I've moved away from modulars for now.

You are mentioning this in almost every post when its about modulars. Who are you trying to convince?

As failed performances pile up, it will continue to impact the potential of all future modulars (regardless of the lack of sales).

But at least there is a bright side to all of this.

I'll take my chances on any set that retires early or has a limited production run.  The question (and problem) with the Modulars is what is a short production run?  Three years?  LOL

A picture of @Val-E and @Ciglione. Every thread needs its Waldorf and Statler.

Damn you, I've that picture saved to my computer, waiting for the right moment to use it.

Maybe when one of your sets reaches 5x RRP would be a good moment. Till then, the grumpy old men rule.

I think that the biggest advantage of the 21305 MAZE is that it was only available for 7 months until retirement.
Maybe it's a hidden gem?! Got my one today from B&M since it wasn't available online any more. They only had 3 sets left... pardon - 2 any more. :D

Thinking about getting a second 10244 FMM, but my shelf space is completely full. Any thoughts about the 10244? Better investment predictions than the 21305?

Greetings,

Much depends on whether the fairground theme continues or not. If they bring out other rides then it could be a good purchase. If it stops at 2 and the Ferris Wheel retires next year, then probably not so much.

I think that the biggest issue of the 10244 is the lack of displayability. It looks like many combined mini sets. The MAZE will attract AFOLS who try to collect all sets of the IDEAS theme. People are collectors - I on my own want to have a complete theme or series - even I'm a reseller and don't need it for my own. So that point and the short lifespan of the 21305 seems to give the MAZE a favor against the Fairground Mixer. BTW: I own only one of each set...

Are there any rumors or announcements regarding CREATOR EXPERT line sets for 2017 - except the Assembly Square.

Dear Grumpy Old Men,

RRP is irrelevant.  Buy-in is King.  We will try to stay off your lawn.  We won't complain about the walk to school, as we know it used to be much more difficult.  In kind, please keep any sentences that begin with "back in my day" relegated to discussions with other people who made tons of easy money doing this and now complain because it's harder.
Sincerely,

Is there so much despair that we even consider the Maze as being a hidden gem?

A hidden gem does not reveal itself before hand. It is only after the fact when one can speak of a hidden gem. If the maze sells for 2 x RRP after retirement it will officially be a hidden gem. Unless we declare it now to be a hidden gem and it will not live up to expectations.

I believe just mentioning a set as a hidden gem immediately puts the hoard stink on it, and all the lurkers just bought 5 more copies each.

You are right! Time will tell. I only tried to share my thoughts with you. I still think that spreading is a good choice and buy-in is way better than the hope for the hidden treasure in your closet or storage room. I even don't expect 2x MSRP from most of the sets.

My only problem is: I don't want to miss one of the "cool" sets, so I have to stick close to my strategy to buy from a few themes, but not all.
Only the remade Death Star and the Adventure Time nonsense which reminds me a little bit of the 24-in-1 (40222) are no temptations for me... ;)

Ok, copy that! No more use of the word "hidden gem". :)

P.S.: I think that the 10188 is a real HIDDEN GEM! ;) *ironyoff*

The Maze is a cool set, yet retiring this soon would indicate a very poor seller or production/licensing issues.  If it's the latter, it could be a solid performer.  If it's the former, then who knows what interest will be.

Considering there are no new/exclusive parts in Ideas sets, it has never been TOOS and it has no official licence, that leaves the former as a more plausible reason.

It´s not even had that short a life for a non licensed Ideas set, either compared with Birds, Exo or RI.

You can't polish a terd.

Ecto 1´s designer doesn´t have to work again thanks to reseller scum. Maze´s will be clocking in at the office tomorrow, as usual.
