What's the lifespan of other LEGO Cuusoo sets, in comparison to the Mars Rover anyway?

 

I'm also looking at the LEGO Shop at Home site, and I would imagine that any set with "New" still labeled on it wouldn't go straight to the retired list. That would be counterproductive to Lego, wouldn't it? Customers would see the "New" sign and expect it to still be there for a little while and purchase later...

You have to keep people interested, on the edge of their seats, etc. Having limited production on stuff keeps people interested and coming to your sites, etc.

Just look at those freaking Barbie dolls with their countless limited editions. Some people are going crazy for them. I like seeing the affordable limited edition LEGO-s, but I think the SDCC figures are just too much. They are very nice but that kind of exclusivity is an overkill I think.

 Could the Rover come back again? Absolutely, we don`t know until Lego marks it "retired" and even then we don`t know 100% (Catwomen set last year).

 

Maybe another example is the TMNT Robot baxter, showed "sold out" after a 50% sale (I got two at that price), and then some weeks later it's back again, full price (currently it's in stock in France).

Sure, but they are so limited that most of the fans attending often find it hard to obtain one. Especially that nowadays there are sharks visiting these comic cons for limited merchandise with reselling purpose.

I mean no offense, but living in the US certainly makes it easier. If I want one I have to pay the inflated prices on ebay. They are a very good investment for those who can get them, but there are many people who just don't have the opportunity to visit one of those events or have a friend going. 

 

As an investor I don't have any problem with them and I am happy for those here who can acquire those figures.

However, as a collector, seeing cool but out of the reach items just makes me sad.

They would still retain their exclusivity but could be more affordable for those whose only option is secondary market. For instance distributing them randomly in shop@home Super Heroes orders besides the ones given away at the event.

Good call! Didn`t remember that one. Bottom line I guess is that Lego will do whatever, whenever they want with their product. All we can do is speculate without inside information.

Na he's just my real life friend and I taught him everything. Once he gets his muscles big he can use more of my techniques for intimidating cashiers, until then he has to clean on tips like this.

TH seems the less popular set of the two, based on an entirely non-scientific reading of this forum. Maybe the price is a factor. This might influence the decision to retire it. I'm just waiting for my eBay "built once" TH to arrive before finalising my own opinion on the sets (built the pet shop in the last few weeks)

If you see TRU bumped up theyre prices on the SSD and DS.. so maybe they have inside info on both those sets retiring. Now theyre just waiting for the hatchet? Any thoughts?
