market value

Pardon my ignorance as I am fairly new to LEGO investing, but how is that some sets that are still in production 10225 for example, have a higher market value that its retail price?

    Basically, new sets start out high because people get them early, put them on eBay at a higher price. Once they get released the price starts to come down. You will see this in all new sets, especially a UCS set like this one. People really wanted it.

    Some people pay more than retail on EBAY because they are in areas of the world that might not be able to get a set from LEGO or Amazon at the MSRP(or LEGO/Amazon doesn't ship there)...and EBAY is actually cheaper than the other alternatives and the EBAY seller will ship to weird locations. Sometimes, people are just silly and pay more.
