Star Wars 2013 - Set Reviews

Featured Replies

Brickshow released their Sail Barge video.  I still think the original one is the one to get (for non-investing purposes). It just looks better and is bigger.  Granted, the newer version has a better Jabba and new mini-figs.  for my son, I'll use  the original; Sail Barge w/ the new Place, Skiff, and Rancor sets w/ the latest minifigs.  Just need to get the revised Leia, Max Rebo, Weequay and Ree-Yees.  Too bad there is no Yak-Face nor additional G-Guards

Thanks. I was referring to more of a comparison pic of both (in the same pic) in terms of scale / sizing.

I do see pros and cons of both. Maybe I should buy both and make a mash-up. Ha

I know you meant an actual side by side comparison shot but couldn't find one at all which seems surprising in a way.

With all these remakes, I really do not trust investing in star wars sets anymore.  Anybody else feel the same?

So you feel like these remakes are happening too fast and they are going to affect the older version(s) of a set? Time will tell, but I don't think it will have too big of an impact. Hard core collectors will still want the older version(s) of a set.

You basically just slash your potential clients base in half (or more).  All non-hard core collectors who would have paid $300+ for the Gunship (for example) all the sudden can wait a couple of months to get a newer version of the Gunship for much less.  The average consumer more than likely would pick the cheaper option, effectively reducing the demands for the older sets.

And not just this, it makes me feel like LEGO is getting lazy... with 2013 Castle vs Kingdoms and LOTR and all these lame remakes of Sail Barge and gunship and so on and on...

Overall I am rather disappointed this year with LEGO releases Old Republic stuff looks fresh though, but figures need to get slightly better and we need more of them!

Hey, jasonline. I added an image of the older version beneath the newer one for comparison. How does that look?

I purchased a 6210 Sail Barge today (opened, complete, clean stickers, instructions, box) for $100. I didn't build the Skiff but already know the newer one my son has is better. Same for Sarliac Pit. The minifigs are clearly dated especially the sand green Jabba and G.Guard. However, the Sail Barge itself is awesome. Around 16 studs wide and 65 studs long, I'll buy the 2013 version when it comes out for the size comparison pic. (Although paying retail will damper my spirits).

side note : do think the newer one is overpriced especially since it doesn't seem to have the unique elements included in the older one. $120 retail seems kinda steep when considering the 6210 retailed for $80 (about $92 in 2013 dollars) and contained the Skiff. Thus, the refresh is really closer to $145 retail but you do get more overall mini-figs and they look good (especially Jabba). Big price gap nevertheless.

For anyone who is interested in seeing a few of the sets built and reviewed on YouTube, I came across some kid who has reviews for the Republic Gunship, Jek-14's Starfighter, and Jabba's Sail Barge. Jabba's Sail Barge and the Gunship look way better than I originally thought.

The Ewok Village looks very cool, interesting, and fun to play with. Now a big decision: buy a UCS Red Five X-Wing fighter or an Ewok Village. So hard to choose.

I was just looking to take advantage of the yoyo deal and get some new 2013 sets. Is this one of the worst offerings in a while? Maybe we are just spoiled? I don't see a single star wars set I would buy at 20% off. The sail barge is close....but still sems overpriced. The lotr boat looks pretty neat...I might grab one of those to build. But man....with the exception of thise 2 and a couple of chima sets...lot of stinkers this season. The coast guard is ok..but priced really dear. The castle sets look cheap and cartooney. The opera house, lotr tower and ewoks are kind of nice...but....I don't know..just not excited to buy/build or invest in any of these.
