Hey, Was wondering if any of you who build have any expertise on a good quality Lego table for the kiddos. I've been browsing EBay and Amazon and have taken a liking to a table made by a company in North Dakota called Flextoys, they make what looks like a good quality, sturdy table with solid oak legs. They offer a model with or without a mesh storage bag in the middle for about 160 plus 20 bucks to ship. There's also some less impressive looking all-plastic tables and an official Lego table with a pretty cool singular design but it's well over 200 bucks. Anyone have any good advice on this stuff?

I have been meaning to post the table I made, I need to take a picture. Here's a simple table you can make for cheaper than what you are mentioning. And way more functional. First, you need to be in the vicinity of an Ikea. Hopefully you have one close. Get two of these Trofast frames: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80153800/ Then get these: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80089239/ You can also get the larger sized bins. We have our pieces separated by color in the different bins. Build the two frames, turn them back to back, and drill a hole in the back support beam on both sides. I drilled in three places, and used a simple nut and bolt to bolt them together. Then you can either apply nine 10" x 10" lego plates, or just use plates loosely on the surface. So all told you could do it for a similar price to what you are looking at, but with much more storage space.

IKEA is about a 45 minute drive for me on the other side of Austin, but this may be worth a look. How much do the Lego plates run? Did you glue them to the top?

Those are pretty cool! At 29 I'm no longer a kiddo, but I'd still love to have these for myself.

Lego plates are $5 at LEGO Shop at Home, or you can find them used on eBay of course. I didn't glue ours down but you certainly could. Mostly it's just a good kid-sized surface. And honestly, I can't imagine storing the pieces all jumbled up, and I'm not even THAT much of an OCD guy. :-)

This is a good idea. I've wanted to do this myself for my kiddo. Can you post pictures if you get a chance, in particular I'd like to see where you drilled and such?
