Yes, the builder stated he used a golden coat for a realistic effect which I would assume was spray paint.

Precisely one of the reasons why I find Bruce Lowell's work fascinating. While the idea of the model can be considered commonplace, the detail behind it is anything but. Here's another of his that practically blends into the local flora.

That looks great!  The Alien itself is awesome but the way the blood is done really makes it, that drip and pool effect is brilliant.
