Just my opinion, but that looks terrible. Imagine the misery of painstakingly putting together over 10k 1x1 pieces only to come up with that.

this is shocking. dreadful set

Not really digging the ocean depth approach. It should have been a 2 in 1 with the option to build the continents in classic lego colors with the ocean all blue or the color of your choice to keep with the new lego is all inclusive theme.

lol - you gotta be kidding me.  the opposite of everyone is awesome.  they got Antarctica right.   having done 1 of the Art builds (marilyln monroe), this black-white version seems like a punishment.

This is not very good. The colors are just leftover from DOTS series 1. Lego could have utilized a more realistic approach to the water and land. A topographic style map would have been really interesting, allowing variations in height for different areas of the world, but even then the scale would be even more enormous than this already is. No-one in their right mind will be changing the style of the ocean. 1x1 plates are the absolute worst to remove and are prone to cracking.

I give it like 2 stars.

It would have served a better purpose if the tiles were printed with the countries, capitols, iconic cities, etc.  It would have also been educational and they would have received lots of kudos.

wow just wow.

and those aint good wows

Yeah, even as a person who loves and decorates with maps...

They're not dots, but the info I found on this guy said it was 6K pieces & it's beautiful. Wish they could have found a happy medium between this & the set they're releasing.

LEGO - world map - Catawiki

This strikes me as an odd choice given that the IDEAS line Globe should be coming out at some point this year as well.
LEGO Ideas Earth Globe

Yes Globe, No Map

It's a deconstructed globe. :(

Yay LEGO!

Everyone is awesome, even flat-earthers. So now Lego plays BOTH sides.

Well. As the resident cartographer....

I guess I’ll hope this less than great reception translates to deep discounts for my personal collection.

I’m also hopeful the MOC community will do some cool stuff with this. I’d be willing to grab 2000 blue 1x1s (at a penny each hopefully) to change out the ocean. Or make other changes like a topographic map, or setting up countries. Could be fun.

Maybe some enterprising individual will create label stickers for country names, etc.

Boring. Is there even a designer attached?  They probably just took data from Google.

Perfect word for this

Odd? Or complementary? Seems like a perfect match. You don’t want to miss out on one if you’ve got the other!

I’m not a fan of the scheme used, but I do see a lot of potential in this one. There are so many ways it can be modified. I could see using this to track the family travels. Instead of a pin, add a red tile.

It would be cool to see them release printed flag tiles as a supplement or part of the Dots line to allow labeling of the map.

It may not be perfect, but I like the possibilities. Besides, my kids will love it which is good enough for me.

Guess I'm the only one who kind of likes it. I'm trying to envision it as if its on the wall and I'm across the room.  In that scenario it might look like a really nice piece of art. Not necessarily a perfect world map.

I'm waiting for the Pangaea MOC.  Or maybe buy five of them and show stages of continental drift.

There’s at least instructions for an alternative, Asian-centric projection.

I love the concept, just not a huge fan of the color scheme.  I think people are upset because it just had soooo much potential.  Saying that - I will probably buy it for my personal collection, because I have all of the landmark architecture series sets, and I want to hang it on the wall and surround it with those sets.  I think by itself it would look average.  With the color of all the landmark sets surrounding it - I think it'll look pretty good.

I was a cartographer too, until my job series was changed to an aeronautical information specialist.  :)

Sweet!

Sadly, I retired from map making years ago. “Rose” to Management, then got pushed aside. Now I’m in my second career as an IT/Web/SharePoint guy. But funny enough I’m still on a Geographer Series PD.
