  • I got a Mr. Gold about two weeks ago, #3006, at a KMART here in Los Angeles (3rd and Fairfax). I feel incredibly fortunate. My son and I have been collecting them all since series one, so ours will be

Now, you just have to get the Leia from that set, and switch out the hair piece to make the rarer and more valuable minifigure.

I sold the hair piece for $70 on ebay today. I'm happy since it was basically like money I didn't know I had!

That's great. I did not know that one simple hair piece could be worth so much.

A supermarket near me is selling sealed new boxes of series 10 for 100.  I really want to buy 3 boxes in an ultimate attempt to get a Mr Gold.  I (think I) will be able to return and ask for a refund of the boxes (hopefully they won't notice the seals have been opened) if I don't find one, but I just wonder if it's worth the hassle...

What do you think?  Is there a chance at all?  Or have they all been given out with the first batches of series 10?  I don't trust the Mr Gold map because many have chosen not to registers theirs in hopes of selling it at an exorbitant price.

Sure, there's a chance, but I would not return opened boxes if I didn't find what I was looking for - would you appreciate being the next customer in line buying your returned opened boxes hoping to find a Mr. Gold?

This figure is near none obtainable. Hope Lego never do this again. Stomping

Martin has it right. If it is a sealed box of 60, then $100 is a great deal to begin with and you can likely make a profit anyway.

$100 bucks, it just throwing your cash away. Staff, warehouse staff, know the game, if they haven't checked all the bags 1st, your lucky. Mr Gold was Lego's worst, clever idea. Stomping

Actually, it's the online site of the supermarket near me.  I doubt that the employees will have time to try to find Mr Gold, as the boxes will probably be shipped directly from the warehouses.

If I'm understanding correctly, these are sealed boxes of 60.  $100 for these is a steal, and in no way a waste.  I understand your not liking how Lego did Mr. Gold, but to get sealed boxes of series 10 for this price is in no way throwing money away.

Series 10 should've been in little tubes or boxes IMO.

The current count of Mr. Golds found and registered is 1,644.

The steam has almost left the building on these. I'm beginning to wonder if all 5,000 of these were even shipped into the wild to start with. Feels more like closer to half maybe.

A few stores in the UK have put individual packets into security cases because so many people were tearing open packets in store due to Mr. Gold of course.

Try smooshing your way through one of these. Yeesh.

I'm right with you. I see the OP is located in France, if that's right. So are we talking 100

*sigh* Why do I even bother anymore.... Are we going to even hit 2,000 before the end of this year? How about the next millennium?

Congrats

Hmm, guess it moved considerably in the past couple of weeks. Maybe it will hit 2,000 by year's end.

....Or not. :P

TLG should say if you register your code now, you'll get another exclusive minifig. Then the number will double instantly  :sungum:

That would be nice. And then the number of Mr. Golds found would be 4,999 and the last one is hidden in some kids closet.

Went to my local Walmart last night and discovered a series 10 display. They haven't had this in the past and the bags looked crips. Figured I would give it a shot since I'm missing 4 figures. Found 3 of them (Captain, Mechanic, Mime) but the most exciting part was when I felt a straight stick, a lightsaber handle, and a top hat. Mr. Gold ladies and gentlemen. I couldn't believe my luck since I'd pretty much given up finding him. My 6 year old was ecstatic and I told him we will probably sell him to get funds for more LEGOs.

So how do I maximize my profits? There are currently two auctions on eBay right now. One is up to $520 and the other at $560.99. There are also a bunch buy it now from $700 to $1,200.

Do I wait? Will Christmas time be better? Will they still go up in value or have we hit a plateau? Do I start at $1 and see what happens? Any advice would be appreciated.

congrats thats wonderful

I wouldn't start at $1 to see what happens. He has been around for a few months now so the initial excitement that may cause a bidding war is gone. I would start him at a price you would be happy with if there was only one bid, and go from there. If he doesn't sell right away then you can tweak your listing to entice more potential buyers. He is too rare to just throw out there hoping that a bidding war ensues, because once he is gone, he is gone. Good luck. Let us know how you do.
