Prediction of worth for Series 10 "Mr. Gold"

Featured Replies

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I just can't search through 25 pages :P what are people expecting Mr Gold to be worth once they've all been found and the hype has died down, in say a year or so?

I honestly have no idea and no evidence or statistics to base my assumption off of, but I see them going for around 200-300 after the hype dies. Maybe closer to 200. That's just my random guess.

  • I got a Mr. Gold about two weeks ago, #3006, at a KMART here in Los Angeles (3rd and Fairfax). I feel incredibly fortunate. My son and I have been collecting them all since series one, so ours will be

I'm curious to why the hype died down so quickly. When the series 10 first came out, people were registering Mr. golds like crazy. I'm guessing that Lego isn't releasing all 5000 mr. golds at once, and instead are releaseing so many of them periodically. There might be only, say, 1,500 out there.

When they first came out though people were going from store to store hoping to find one. People here have sealed boxes.

But once it because apparent these things were rare and not necessarily worth the effort, people backed away. It certainly has been interesting watching it all unfold and I can't wait for my five boxes to arrive.

Yes, but the rate has slowed down so much (almost exponentially). But anyways, I wish you good luck striking gold in your five boxes.

Well the initial hysteria has backed right off. Really if you aren't there when they crack open a new box, there is a good chance it had been rifled through anyway.

I agree though, I didn't expect it to slow this much, but again we don't know how many boxes are out there, how many minifigs have been held onto, etc.

I am not going to hold my breath about discovering a Mr Gold, just going to make more sets up to resell.

I agree Darkness, I think Lego is rationing out mr golds. No way did they send out all 5000 in the first round of shipments.

They were boxed randomly and the boxes are shipped out in a steady stream until they are gone. It's pretty much impossible to know how many Mr. Golds have been bought already, anyway. A lot of people are sitting on sealed boxes and can't report their findings, a lot of people are purposely not registering their Mr. Golds, so they can make them more desirable on ebay or bricklink, and a lot of people are probably like me. I have a Mr. Gold that I will sell years from now, but I don't want to compromise its desirability in the meantime. Registering shouldn't make a difference, but given a choice, I think people consider the minifig to be in that much of a "purer" state if it's not registered. I know its exciting to see more and more get registered, but many more have been bought than have been registered. By the way, has anyone here seen any really low numbered Mr. Golds sold or registered?

Well, use history as a reference. I don't know the answer, but have other Lego items started off high and then lost value over time?

The current count of Mr. Golds found is 1,240.

It's getting there albeit slowly as Spongebob's pet snail, Gary. Or maybe not; that little guy is pretty quick on its....whatever a snail has. :P

To contribute, I can see on average even after this "Goldgate" has died down any Mr. Gold going for $500 or more especially when the pool of registered 'Goldies' increases to the point of very few left unregistered (less than a thousand). If people can still want a Spartan or Roman Soldier after all this time, then why not the shiny Monopoly Guy? :money:

A muscular foot? :D

Question:  Does the country listed relate to the place where the person registered it, or where Lego knows they shipped the Mr Gold to based off the code?

Great question for those who registered theirs. I can't even get to the "Enter Mr. Gold VIP code" page right now for some reason. It just gives me the "Page not found" error. From speculation, I imagine the person who enters the code would have a choice of selecting their country or state.

If I remember correctly, when I registered mine it asks you where you are from.

Ah ok then. Thanks for the info.

I guess then you could say you were from Botswana or something random just so you could see your own dot show up :D

The current count of Mr. Golds found is 1,414.

It has barely moved a smidge since a couple days ago but at least now the original "Where is Mr. Gold?" webpage is back online after some brief downtime.

This be a decent indication of how many unopened ones are sitting around, and how many people are't reporting them as found.
