I don't believe you got a good deal for it at all, particularly if you looked at international prices.

In Australia 2 sold today, one for $1045 and the other for $919 ($957 and $842 US)

I'm hoping those were at least brand new and sealed, but I am on TheDarkness' side with this. You got an okay but not quite the whole package kind of deal. Still to be fair, three large sets for a small $3 minifigure is great. This is one of those times where I would have rather just taken straight up cash.

If he would add Fire Brigade and GE I would call it a very good deal...

Each to his own I suppose as who knows which way modulars or Mr Gold is headed?. Yes, the boxes were mint (I'd accept nothing less) and I've dealt with this guy before.  I can honesty say that's the first Lego trade I have ever done as I've not sold a single set yet!  BTW... I can talk

My daughter is trying to make up her mind about selling now or waiting for a while. I also wonder if he would sell better along with a complete set of series 10.

Who cares if anyone thinks this is a good deal or not, the two people making the transaction are happy and that's all that matters really. Not everything in this world has to be about money.

This is the one time where I think it would be better to sell Mr. Gold by himself. Somehow I don't see including the other guys from the series increasing the value of the sale but they might help it go faster. The people that are paying the $500+ for Mr. Gold genuinely only want him.

You're probably correct. Just something that crossed my mind. So far she has not made up her mind whether to list him now or wait a while.

I would take the cash too if I had a Mr. Gold, $500+ is good enough for me.  yesterday at local Target, I saw two boxes of Series 10...one box was half empty and the 2'nd box was 'brand new' as all the bags line up neatly and didn't look smooshed/touched.  Anyways, i picked up 1 Medusa from the half box and 3 more from the full box.  Didn't bother smooshing for Mr. Gold...right behind me came 3 kids and they immediately started to smoosh haha. 

 

Maybe the Toy Hunter would have a Mr. Gold in an epidsode, been catching up on the shows on youtube

Not sure of the exact ratio per box for Medusa and you're probably right that other figures are more rare (probably in a detailed post)...but I like it because the figure is pretty neat and it's so easy to spot.  Congrats on your Mr. Gold.  Keeping or selling?

Nice find with Mr. Gold, and Medusa is one of the 'rare six' with a ratio of two per box of sixty alongside Librarian, Trend Setter, Sea Captain, Grandpa, and Bumblebee Girl, as well as being desirable. You can feel the top hat and diamond. No other series 10 minifigs have things that resemble those. I was very fortunate to find my Mr. Gold (#3006) at a KMART, here in Los Angeles. I was only looking for the 4 or 5 I still needed to complete this series and never thought I had a chance at finding Mr. Gold. My son and I have worked very hard at getting every collectible minifigure made to date, and while I appreciate my find, I still hate Lego for doing this to all the other people looking to build a complete set. Yeah, yeah, I know. It's not technically part of series 10, nobody is making me buy them, Lego can do what ever they want with their products, etc., but I am very sympathetic to all the fans who bought into the belief that everybody had a reasonable shot at getting every collectible minifigure. It IS a part of the collectible minifigure universe and it's very uncool to string people along to this point and then pull a "super rare" piece on them.

The current count of Mr. Golds found is 1,187.

Slowly but surely, things are progressing only not by much. Still, we will be nearing the second milestone in a few weeks time.

I suspect there are quite a few that are unregistered, I know if I have one I wouldn't register it if I was planning on selling it.

The hype seems to have died down too. Though there are still people looking for him, I think most of us have moved on.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I just can't search through 25 pages what are people expecting Mr Gold to be worth once they've all been found and the hype has died down, in say a year or so?

I can't believe the prices on Bricklink, very few sub $1000 listings.
