Disney Mickey Mouse fans will love this LEGO® Ideas 21317 Steamboat Willie building toy marking the 90th anniversary of the most famous cartoon character ever. Mickey Mouse made his screen debut in a

I plan on placing mine in a sunny window for all of that UV goodness. But man, the price point on this is a little crazy. It doesn't even come with a holographic sticker.

This set is a winner. I'm in for a few dozen once we see the standard 35-40% discount that most Ideas sets usually receive at one point or another. Comparing this to Adventure Time or Exo Suit is ridiculous. Totally different fan bases. I'd be willing to bet that this set outperforms The Flintstones as well.

would it be safe to assume that Ideas sets will NOT get re-released no matter the popularity?

[to do so would kinda defeats the purpose of the Ideas line]...that said I would love part 2 of a set like the vehicle version of Voltron...I would die

i don’t think they would ever be re-released....superior remakes however could always come along. another ecto -1 when the new movie comes out maybe.

Does anyone know if there has ever been a black and white set before or is this a first?

Is the set really black and white? I assumed just the box art.

I assumed right off it was black and white set, not sure now ...we'll see.   great set to have little stash of.  I only wish it had some sweet holographic numbered sticker on it to really set it off:)

The paddles better pump the steam pipes up and down.

The box art on the back confirms that that is the case.

a B&W set is a cool concept, that and historical Mickey (relatively accurate to source material): these two elements make it a must buy for AFoLs and Disney fans alike...if it had a limited edition sticker it would be the trifecta = gold

I believe the guy who designed Voltron also did a Vehicle Voltron. I think he made instructions available too.

...and so the quest begins...my first MOC will be EPIC

Remember that the "Disney Tax" will likely mean a high RRP and poor discounts. I expect it to be available for a very long time, and very unexclusive so plenty of time to judge popularity and wait for the small discounts. Since I'm an IDEAS completionist (since Hayabusa), I'll buy one.

Given the popularity of Disney in general, anyone that believes, or are foolish enough to think, this set will not do well in the long term are fooling themselves. It could also be they are trying to get others not to buy so they hoard it and hope others do not.

I showed my children the pictures of this set and aside from a Steamboat Willie Hallmark ornament I bought them last year they immediately recognized Mickey and Minnie and want the set. This set will do well and I will definitely be stocking up slowly over time.

Well, we´ve had another Ecto for the GB reboot movie and more Mechs than I can remember but no actual straight re-releases.

If this set proves popular, it will likely get a 2 or 3 year run, similar to Saturn V and Ecto 1. If it tanks, it might still be around for that long, like Adventure Time.

For me the issue is not the set but more the box art. I get the retro thing but I wonder whether the black and white thing will help or hinder it.

As usual this will be a game of wait and see, the black and white scenario wont please kids as much as the avid collector.

Best scenario average sales and 1 year shelf life with poor in store availability.

But we all know thats not going to happen.

I heard price should be 90€, is that true?

For 50-discounts, I would be in, but not for 90-discounts

Why does everyone want this in color?  The original was in black and white and I think keeping with that adds a unique charm to this set.

Black and White is the key to this set being collectible at all really.   In color is likens it to Duplo as earlier stated.  that being said I'm not sure anyone mentioned them wanting it in color. ?

I think they should do it in an off-white to make it look old.

I like that idea.  I'd also go for a variant set with a sepia tone - perhaps it could come with one of those fancy holographic stickers that are all the rage these days.
