Safe to buy gift card (distance seller)?

Featured Replies

Is there anything to be wary of when buying Lego gift card from a distance seller?

Obviously worry would be the seller using the card after it's been sold?

Depends what you're meaning by distance seller? If it involves anything other than PayPal goods and services then I'd avoid

It depends on the asking price and the card value. I'd not take a chance unless you're fully covered or if it's dirt cheap.

PayPal states that the following kind of purchase is not covered :

  • eBay classified advertisements

What exactly does this mean? I'm pretty sure eBay purchases are covered as standard?

There are several things to be worried about. Tell them to list it on Ebay and you will pay 10% more for it to cover their costs. Then you have an added layer of protection.

The only way I would do this is if I was standing at the checkout with my purchase ready, then buy the gift card on the phone from the seller, have them pass you the GC details, and immediately use it. But even then they could disconnect before they give you the card details or something, and you would be screwed. Net, sounds like too much trouble.

what are the transaction details?

is it a card w/ a need to scratch off cover...if so, and it is mailed then no one can use the card until you get it; right?

how is payment set up?
